my power supply went out, and when i put a new one in and tried to start up my computer it said something like.. replace boot device or something.. like it wasn't picking up the harddrive. when i went into cmos under boot-device it just had floppy and cd-rom drive, but no harddrives listed.

i have 2.......... you think they could have both been killed by my powersupply going out? :confused:
 
How did you determine your power supply went out? Cause it may not have been the power supply.
 
Plug each drive into a different system and test. I like to use a USB2 external to test them out. Could be the controller not as likely, or could be that when you put it back together you left them both on Master or what not.
 
Does the BIOS even detect the drive? Are you sure the power is connected?
Maybe when you were disconnecting and reconnecting, the data cable got loosened or jarred. I'd unplug everything at both ends and plug it back in and see if the drive is detected or not.
 
the power supply did go out. the hard drives were fine though. it was my motherboard that was killed.
