Dead Drobo - run FreeNAS

I was talking with a friend of mine. He suggested using a Raspberry Pi with the Drobo to be a FreeNAS server. We are assuming the SATA controllers, etc are fine - maybe just the Drobo ROM/RAM went bad. After I get recovered, I'm going to see what I can do - would be better than just tossing the hardware.
My guess is that Pi would be just as fast, if not faster, than the Drobo. It was not a speed demon at all. Stay tuned.
