My KDS 17" trinitron died last night after almost 5 years. Is there anything from the monitor that can be salvaged before I trash it?

nope.....I had a 17" KDS X-Flat just go crazy on me and i feel like i'm wasting it if i throw it away but just gotta do it. Monitors are extremely dangerous inside to someone who isn't trained in messing around in them. Monitors and TVs have many large capacitors (little units that's store electrical charges) that can kill you if they're charged.

Not really. I would also highly advise not to open the enclosure as you could run the risk of electrical shock

i was adding speakers to a tv i had (dont ask) and kept saying to myself "ok, dont touch that huge capacitor" and then what happens? my elbow glides past it...

wheeeew boy my whole arm hurt for a week after that

i've also had a power supply electrify my entire computer case somehow, whilst working on putting a USB plug in the back. i'm lucky that my dad was standing right there as he was able to kick my arm so i could get free (when being electrocuted, your muscles no longer work, so i couldn't move my arm away)

Maybe I should leave it at the curb and let some dumpster divers take it.

Take it to some desolate field in the middle of nowheres and go "Office Space" on it lol...

;)
