A month back my dad said the PC (in my sig) won't output a video signal when he turned it on. It would work fine after many tries of turning it off and on again. He brought it to two PC repair shops and they couldn't find anything wrong with it (big surprise). It had no problems with restarts so he just left it on and restarted every few days instead of shutting it off. I was away at college so couldn't do much about it.
After I got home, I did a few shut downs and on the 4th or 5th time it wouldn't display any video. I took the video card out and found two blown capacitors. I picked up a 8400 GS from Fry's for $10, thinking that would fix it. It still won't display a video signal even after the switch. I even cleared the CMOS in an attempt to put everything back to stock speeds but the monitor screen still isn't getting a signal so I can't even get into the BIOS.
Next, I put in my old PSU and there is still no video signal. I tested the two PSU and monitor on an older system and they all work fine.
I moved on to the motherboard and bought a $60 MSI one from Fry's. Swapped everything over to the new MB and the monitor continues to stay black when I turn it on. My old system at least gets to the posts screen and lets me access the BIOS with just a MB, CPU, RAM, and video card. Can a dead CPU be causing all of this or is it more likely that the 8400GS is bad as well? I don't know what else to change besides the CPU and RAM. What should I replace next?
