I just had an old computer w/ a 1.2ghz t-bird die on me. It must have died while I was emerging fvwm (cpu @ 100%), and now it won't even power on. The power light on the mobo is on and I ran memtest86 on my 512mbs of ram about 2 weeks ago, so am I safe in assuming that my cpu crapped out on me while compiling?

go into the bios settings then pc health status and see what the temperature is if you can. if not try and look at the chip itself to see if there is any physical damage to the core. also try a new power supply if you can.
 
well there are few possibilities:
1. you did fry the CPU
2. there's a problem with mobo (does the comp start - even for a split of a second?)
3. PSU
