My computer was working fine last night, and was tearing up the games I threw at it. Turned it off and went to bed. This morning I decided to totally do a cable makeover and start from the beginning with them. After about an hour of work, I got the best possible setup I can in my case. Made sure everything was plugged in took the computer back over to my desk, plugged all the cables into the back, and turned it on. Booted up fine with all the lights and fans working, including the two fans on my video card and their LEDs. Nothing came up on the screen. It wasn't getting an input from the video card, even though it was on. I tried taking off the DVI to VGA adapter and plugging the monitor straight into the VGA port. Still nothing. I thought it was a power issue and put the video card on its own lead from the power supply. Still nothing. Now I'm freaked out that my less-than-month-old card is dead. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

I made sure I was grounded at all times, and only touched the video card once when I was moving the cables below it.
 
Sucks to be you, no really I do feel bad, but it can be fixed, try everything, list of things to try, flash the bios, try different video cards to see if you can even get display at all, go through your system a few times and just make sure everything is good, then try it again...GOOD LUCk
 
I'll try resetting the CMOS and see if that helps any. I'm pissed as this is the second card in a month to die on me in addition to my RAM crapping out. Being a 15 year old with no job and having to drop $530 in a month is not fun.
 
WOW man... you must be full of E.S.D. or something to be killing cards like that and RAM
 
Nope, not a single shock. The RAM had been giving me problems for months and eventually just decided it wouldn't run at 3200. The other video card went out because of bad directions from Arctic Cooling. They never said anything about taking the shim off so I didn't, and the flat heatsink didn't make contact with the GPU and the card fried within 15 minutes.
 
did you unmount hte board? its possible that a screw fell under there and is shorting something out... that has happened to me before, when i got into windows everything was all fucked up and once i found that htere was a post htere i didnt know aout that was shorting the board, everytihng was fine :)

well then I guess this would be what happened to my 9800 pro... I didn't take the shim off either... but then again I don't know how you would considering it's like bonded on there

Nope. I undid two case screws, two hard drive screws, and two thumbscrews. All of which are accounted for.
 
Have you tryed different video cards/ onboard video? or anything else I suggested?
 
I reset the CMOS and put in a known good video card. Still nothing. I think we can rule out the card now. I'm not getting any kind of signal beep from the motherboard. I am wondering however, if something that happened last night is related. I was playing Halo, when all the sudden, everything locked up. Teamspeak started skipping the person in mid-sentence, and Halo locked up. Waited about 10 seconds, started running again, and had a network error in Halo for a few seconds, but then just got right back to normal. Then about an hour later, I was browsing these forums. This time the same thing happened, but it didn't unfreeze. I had to hold the power button to turn it off. That was the last time it was on. Think something else went out?
