Hey guys!

I've got a computer with a P5E board, Q6600, Antec 750w Trio i believe, Crucial RAM *Forgot speed*, Raptor 10k 150GB drive Sata I, etc...

It was brought to me and with trouble during boot it and it wont post. Any ideas on what this could be? When i hit the power button the computer turns on for ~2 seconds, then shuts off for 2 seconds, then boots itself back up and will stay on until someone turns it off.

Yes, I've already tried both ports on the video card.
Removed the CPU headsink to peek at the chip, hasnt blown up! But i did not pull it off the socket for examination.

Any ideas on what this could be?

First of all, check all connections are in i.e graphics card external power plug (if one) and other power connectors if so, all good, reset your CMOS. Then.....
Take out the CPU and verify if damaged underneath.
Test another CPU in the motherboard and see if it is a CPU problem. If it boots then that means the Q6600 is a goner, if it doesn't proceed otherwise with the following below:

Take out RAM and swap slots, that may include testing with 1 stick or both, or trying with another different kit.
If the motherboard has a integrated port, try and see if you can boot it off that, incase it could be the graphics card problem, or you just swap out the graphics card and see if it boots up.
Do you smell anything from your PSU when it boots up? Replace if you do, if not, then swap out the PSU for another good, working PSU and see if it powers up.
Lastly is to make sure you have all the components seated in their sockets/slots properly and firmly in and not lose, next up check if you have enough CPU thermal paste in between the CPU HSF and the CPU itself.

im going through roughly the same thing you are right now

cept mine doesnt boot up then turn off then come back up, it just boots up, i get no beeps, no video at all(also dont have onboard video to try that)

my video card sounds alot louder than it normally does from what ive ever noticed with it

i had originally turned the computer on went to eat dinner came back and i turned my monitor on, all looked good to go but i went to move the mouse and it was like the computer had frozen, mouse wouldnt move on the screen, keyboard wouldnt work at all...no ctrl alt del, no working windows key so i hard started it and when it started to come back up i didnt get video after that at all, so not sure what to think at all now

going this evening to try a different video card witha buddy to see if its my video card and to see if his video card works in my computer and that will rule those out, then will move on to testing the mobo then will check the chip

It sounds like a dead graphics card with your on CLiffburton. I had a 8800gt that spins 100% at startup and would not boot, the fan being really loud. The problem was a dead core and 1 spoiled capacitor. But other then that, you could try it out with another video card, cpu and PSU. And test them separately this way you can pinpoint the culprate in your situation.

well found out its not my video card at all, it worked in my buddys computer and his didnt work in mine which leads me down to the mobo

any way to test to see if its the mobo or the chip? other than taking the chip and headsink off?

mobo gives no beeps at all whatsoever

lol you gotta take off the heatsink and swap working cpus and see if it is cpu fault. And if neither works, then its your motherboard.
