When can we expect system memory to be DDR3..amd and intel...

how big of a difference will DDR3 make?

Was there a difference in DDR2?

Is it worth waiting for?

(here is the general hardware part)
once ddr3 comes out will our processor be bottle-necking it?

any insight please

it took us how many years to go from DDR to DDR2?

a really longass time

ie. by the time DDR3 comes out, there will be a DDR9 used on vid cards already, and the top totally bitchin system from today cant proccess peanuts compared

not going to happen.
the principle difference between GDDR2 and GDDR3 is the voltage, with GDDR2 at 2.5V and GDDR3 at 1.8-2.0V.
but Desktop DDR2 already runs at 1.8V (Because it doesn't need to run well in excess of 1ghz yet).
(There are some other minor improvements like Unidirectional Strobes for simpler and easier clocking, and Psuedo Open Drain I/O, for reduced power and simpler design, but they're not signifigant in terms of upgrading).
