Hi,

dumb question: just got my ripjaw x 12800 kit. in my maximus iv extreme they post as 1333 instead of 1600 per default. is that normal ?

in cpuz they report 10700...

is that normal ?

cheers bubba

Look for an XMP profile. If you are unable to find such a profile or if the profile is not compatible with your particular system, you have to set the speed and timings manually. The Socket 1155 CPUs officially support only up to DDR3-1333 memory speed; anything faster is considered an overclock of the CPU's IMC.

You have to overclock it to get it to its rated specs. Which means oc cpu ->IMC ->ram

its not same as x58 they can hit spec sometimes with applying any additional VccSa

isn't X58 only officially rated up to DDR3 1066? You'd definitely have to manually set the timings and voltages, or enable the XMP profile, to have the RAM run at it's specced speed and timings.

*edit*
Yep, even the 980X is officially only DDR3-1066:

Uh, the OP has a Maximus IV Extreme, which is a P67 motherboard.

By the way, the two G.SKILL Ripjaws 12800-8GBRL kits that I received yesterday morning is one of the few JEDEC DDR3-1600 kits available (as opposed to "DDR3-1600" kits that are really overclockable DDR3-1333 parts). And though my Asus P8P67 Pro detected this RAM at 1600, this RAM can be carried over to a future LGA 2011 system should I want to upgrade to such a platform (the LGA 2011 systems will be the first Intel platform to officially support JEDEC DDR3-1600 RAM).
