Which is the best? Or, does it matter? I am a fan of Corsair and I know they Are usually rated the highest. I am looking to add 6 gigs of 1600 to a PC with 3 gigs of 1333 already. If all are good, should I focus simply on best price? Will the 1600 be clocked down to the 1333 3 gig kit? If so, should I buy another 3 gig 1600 kit. I want to be at 9 gigs and plan to OC my 17 920 to at least 3.5, but will go higher if I can. Thanks in advance.

All of your memory will be clocked the same. You won't have some at 1333 and some at 1600. If you need 9 GB I would recommend staying with 1333 speeds. You can still put the 1600 speed stuff in there and let it downclock to match the 1333 then upgrade further later. Depending on your application you may see better performance with 6 GB at higher clocks than with 9 GB at lower.

If you must have 1600 then you will need to do one of 2 things.
1) OC your current 3 gigs and see if you can get them to 1600 without throwing your latencies out the window. Keep in mind that when you load all 6 slots you may not get the same performance out of your memory due to heat and power demands
2) Remove the 3 GB in there already and put all new memory in the machine.
Someone else will have to chime in on the specifics of overclocking on the X58.

I'd go with the last G.Skill kit you listed. Good solid kit (currently using it) which runs at a lower voltage (1.5v) than most. Yes, the DDR3 1600 RAM will be downclocked to the speed of your slowest ram. In this case, all the RAM you have will run at 1333 MHz.

both of these replies are very helpful. i might as well learn to OC the ram along with the Cpu and if it will mess up my voltage or performance I can always use the #2 suggestion of running on 6 gigs until I can buy another 3 at 1600.

I'll post another thread on OC'g x58 RAM. Thanks.,

Definitely go with the last G.Skill kit...90 bucks and the lower voltage, plus G.Skill quality is jsut as good as Corsair, and it's customor service rivals the best in the business....just go to newegg and check out the reviews of ANY of thier products....almost EVERY single one of the bad reviews has a comment from a G.Skill rep. helping solve the issue, or willing to help to expedite the RMA process personally.

How many other brands have that? Not many, I can tell you that much....btw, I have that RAM in the rig of my signature below.

Ideally, mixing 2 different types/brands/speeds/ etc etc of memory is not a good idea. Most likely, you will get your best performance at 3 x 2GB @ 1600. You can test it with the 6 up for 9GB of course but I think it will hold back your OC somewhat. You could always sell the 3GB kit if it does not work out.

I guess you heard quality loud and clear. the common point in all of this is not to mix RAM. A friend of mine also has the g skill RAM and is happy. It a coin toss then between the low latency corsair "g" and the g skill.... heads ot tails.
