Hi guys,

I have just purchased the Dolby Digital Live pack for my Creative Xfi Platinum soundcard.

MY system is a Q6600 with 8gb ram running vista 64, with logitech Z5500 speakers.

Now when running in analog mode everything is fine.

However when playing music with DDLive Mode it often hear the music producing some static noise, which doesn't occur in analog mode. (DD and DTS is fine when playing DVD too)

Does this happens to any of you guys?

Also for my system, do you guys think analog would provide better quality? I only just started testing it for a shortwhile, but it seems DDLive offers worst quality overall than anlog mode.

DDLive was invented to bring 5.1 to people that have cheap receivers without multi analog inputs.

Obviously, Dolby Digital sounds worse than analog, because all it does is making the analog path a few feet shorter (absolutely no benefits), with a few compromises: Additional latency, sound compression, more CPU use, lower dynamic range, etc.

is DD Live better than DTS Connect?
DTS doesn't destroy the sound as much.

Analog > DTS > DD > MPEG
Even PCM through SPDIF is not as good as analog, because SPDIF simply isn't a good sound transport. Try it for yourself if you want.

A sound card, on the other side, uses I2S with three different digital signals.

With SPDIF, the clock/sync and data signals are combined in a high frequency analog signal. Like a composite video signal is for NTSC video. Of course, separate signals, like S-Video and Component provide a better picture quality. It's the same thing for digital audio, except that every consumer sound cards have only SPDIF outputs.

The cable used for the SPDIF connection, and a poor circuit design without balancing transformer in the SPDIF receiver can screw up the sound.

hi DragonMaster, thanks heaps for the reply, that is exactly the information I want to know.

I guess I will try to get a refund for the DDLive pack even though its only about 5 dollars.

Thanks.

Eric
