DD TDX vs Storm?

I have the DD TDX w/brass top for my CPU, would the Storm cool that much better and would it be worth the money to change?

depends on:

1) How [H]ard you are...

2) If you have a chip with the IHS still on


If you have an IHS on your CPU and dont plan on running it naked then almost any modern waterblock will perform about the same.
 
I happen to <3 my TDX as well. It's not worth the money for the ~2-3*C increase, if even.
 
The storm will also restrict more flow, so in certain situations the TDX might perform even better (i.e. having multiple blocks in series).
 
I'd stick with the TDX...they're nice blocks...mine served me well, and it's not worth the money to switch to the storm IMO.

I like my TDX better than my Storm. If I had it all to do over again, I'd have two TDXes.

They're close enough in performance that most people wouldn't see much of any of a difference...but I do still have more personal history with DangerDen...so I'm still more inclined to go that route when it comes to blocks. Not that there's anything wrong with Swifty...I do like the look of their newer stuff...I'd just much rather deal with a company I've got good history with, like anyone else.

That's because there's absolutely no reason to use an RBX with the TDX blocks available. The TDX blocks came later, but offer the same (or better) performance as the RBX...but with a two nozzels as opposed to three...which isn't really necessary in the first place, and just makes things look messy.
 
I still have to port out the spare nozzel that came with my TDX nozzel kit and see what happens ;)

I'm a swiftech fan, but even knowing it was slightly better when I got mine the TDX & D5 combo was $50 less. Even if your running 1-2C cooler it does not gaurantee you can overlock higher. I find my opteron is more voltage limiting (I can run at 2800 stable) but the CPU will likely die alot faster. I think and extra 1-2C would not gain me anything and I don;t want to remove my IHS, I could do it I know, but better left as is...

Actually the TDX performs slightly worse than the RBX, not by much but the RBX is better.

They're still similar enough that I think it's worth it for people to go with whichever they like the look of more and whichever block makes it easier to route the tubing in their case...I just personally don't like the look of the triple head design too much...just personal preference.

Maybe I was wrong, but I thought the Apogee was slightly better then the Storm. if it is the way you say it is then I completely agree...otherwise switch the storm for apogee in your order and I'm good to go. :)

The apogee is better for low flow situations, the storm is better when you have a decent pump.
 
the Storm is all around a better block. The only thing the Apogee excels at is lower restriction. If you have the MCP655 from swiftech, the Storm would be the best performing block. But like i said if you have the IHS on, you wont see much difference.

Thx bro...that helps to clear that up.

I can't say I'll even be looking at one block or another, as I'll be running a phase change system on my cpu by the end of the month, but it's still nice to know what to suggest to my fellow [H]'ers. :)
 
i've had the apogee and switched to the tdx bec it's pretty .. lol

I agree the TDX is "pretty"...but I much rather prefer the black/chrome look of the storm and apogee blocks...just personal preference I guess.
 
What refrigerant is used in most phase change (evap/condense) systems? Are they actually running an evaporator on the block or are they using it as a chiller to circulate chilled water? And if they are doing an evaporator on the block is it a flooded evaporator or a metered flow evaporator?
 
yea the chrome and black is kinda cool... if i were going that route i'd get this one though..

I like the mounting mechanism for the TDX alot better than the Storm, too.

I'm using 5. Definitely keeping it at 5 when I get the Maze4 GPU block, but I'll be switching to Masterkleer 7/16" tubing. It's a crazy tight fit and it's really flexible, so perfect for a little bit of transporting.
 
Nice you guys...

Alex...why not do what I did with my TDX setup and have the block mounted the other way around so the outlet is on the other side of the block and the tubing doesn't have to "cross over" like that?

I have no idea why the thought didn't occur to me. I'll fix that later, depending on the best way to fit it all in with the Maze4 GPU. I'm thinking just moving the pump forward and turning it around and going pump -> rad -> cpu -> gpu -> pump. Might be the best way to fit it in.

Yeah...that layout you just described would make a HELL of a lot more sense...it'd look a lot cleaner and probly be slightly more efficient to boot.
 
My order of preference:

Storm > Swiftech MCW6002 > TDX > Apogee.

And actually the Apogee is not very good for low flow loops. The one that excels when coupled with a week pump (compared to the others using the same pump) is the Swiftech MCW6002.
