My wife has a hand-me-down HP laptop that I've cleaned up and souped up for her (dv6 series). She has been using Windows 10 on my desktop and was comfortable installing it on her laptop.

Since installing Windows 10, even lightly touching the trackpad results in a DCP_Watchdog_Violation BSOD and reset. Now she turns the trackpad off as soon as the laptop is finished booting and uses a trackball (which she hates) for her work.

I've tried an Upgrade Install from Windows 8.1, a clean install, removing the drivers and letting them reinstall, and even trying to reinstall the drivers from HP's service page, all to no avail.

Any recommendations you guys can make would be greatly appreciated. If momma ain't happy...
 
Do you have version 19.0.6.0 (or later) of the Synaptics SMbus TouchPad Driver?

The "Most Helpful Reply" in this thread may be of interest to you. It suggests "plug in a USB mouse, restart your PC, when fully booted, uninstall the Synaptics SMbus TouchPad Driver, and reboot your PC" to get the latest version of that driver.
