DC Vault

Hey, I'd like to enjoy my second place standing (overall pernts) in Primegrid for a few more days... :D Due to the RCN & Superlink raids, I've only turned in about 2 primegrid WUs in the past week or so, and now I'm trying to hit yoyo@home hard, as it's our lowest BOINC Vault score... Into the mowing shed I go!

You know, it's always confused me why all the stat pages show rankings on RAC instead of overall pernts - is it just to keep things interesting? For example, on yoyo, I'm last of 5 team members in overall pernts, but 2nd in RAC. Frankly, all I care about is total pernts, as that means total science, not how much focus I've given a project in the last week or so.

I've often thought the same thing. I guess BOINC runs on the "What have you done for me lately" system. Look at mfl0p on ABC. 800K points, but was listed dead last on the team until he started it back up either yesterday or today.

okay to make you feel better about primegrid i'll start doing some yoyo@home too, make it a little more fair. :)

Ever have a project get stuck for whatever reason and you have to kick it? I just found 200+ ibercivis units not wanting to upload on one of my boxes. That took a while. :D

So has anyone given any thought to a raid this weekend or are we just going to keep crushing superlink while it lasts? 3.5Million units took 3 weeks last time without the [H] on it, and there's only 2.5Million this time.

I signed up for the Prime Sierpinski Project and I'm trying to do some PRP work. I'm running the Windows LLRnet client from here. It says, "Sit back and relax and the application will do all the work for you." The application is running, but how do I know if it's actually completing work? Where can I check my points?

right now i think me and eric are doing a run on primegrid trying to catch eachother.. but thats just a guess since his outputs doubled along with mine..

I'll be gone for most of the weekend again, so right now I'm just gonna keep crunching Yoyo... We're already up about 400 points in the past few days, and that's only with my two boxen, 160 RAC from the mysterious Tr0ach, and and ton from Sazaneyes... We have an easy 2000 Vault pernts we can grab here, so that's my goal for the next week or so!

I put my BOINC machines on Superlink for the weekend (still running W@H and Eon). If/when they run out of work, I'll go back on other BOINC projects. I was comparing our standings in each project with the pirates, and it looks like we just need more BOINC to catch them.

I have the strange urge to buy more D. :D :D

im still waiting for my tax return so i can buy a phenom II.. then ill take the cpu out of those system and throw it on another board.. i think maybe the end of this month or next month im going to work on creating an open rack for all the other systems i have but dont have cases for.. since i have enough psu's and shit for them..

Yeah you and me are both in a race for PrimeGrid. For the rack idea, I have just a 3 layer shelf in the basement made of 2x4s and plywood on wheels. Its perfect for mixing cases and monitors. It was relatively cheap too, prolly under $100. I'll add some pictures of it a little later.

pictures would be awesome.. because im stuck on how i should actually make it..

yeah not a bad race either eric.. we have move the primegrid team up amost 100 places in less then 5 days.. :p hopefully we are in the high 8k low 9k dc-vault points by the end of the month..

Up one to #25. Look out Pirates, your lead is less than 400 points. :D

Rack01.jpg

This is the rack from the back side, I recently rewired it a little neater.

Rack02.jpg

This is the rack from the front and side. Showing the 5 older computer towers on the bottom, my server case on the second level, and the monitors on the top. Also a few monitors on my workbench next to the rack.
Rack03.jpg

Another view more directly straight on.
Rack04.jpg

This view is hard to tell but it is from behind and shows the swivel wheels which it rolls out on, (it is much nicer when it rolls :) )

That is all of the computers I use for DC most are off right now except the server case and the main desktop in my room.

nice

since i dont have any more cases for any of the systems i have.. i think ill just mount the motherboards directly to the plywood using the mounting screws.. similar to i believe it was tobits i7 setup.. but make it wide enough that i can fit my crappy case thats housing my a64 3200+ and probably my antec 300 which will have my x2 6400+ after i switch the systems.. then probably put my x2 be-2350 on another am2 only motherboard i have when i buy the phenom II 940 next month.. and leave some room for any other systems i decide to add to it.. so thanks for helping me out with my ideas for the rack, eric..

Your welcome, mounting directly to the plywood would be good too. I just have extra cases so I thought I would use them.

Edit:: We are now only 7.7 points behind Pirate Fleet!

cool thanks razor.. ill try it out..

btw is anyone having trouble uploading seti projects? i have over 60 of them waiting to be sent and they are all stuck uploading..

On behalf The Pirate Fleet I tip my hat to the [H]orde. We tried but we just couldn't hold you off. We still have our doors intact.

You guys put up one heck of a fight. The last few days, I've been watching the chunks of your lead get smaller and smaller. We'll be sure to keep an eye in our rear view mirror for you. :D

Yeah the server network line is at full capacity. I have about 400 waiting to be returned.
Discussion here and graphs here and here.
Graphs for gigabitethernet2_3 show that their incoming bandwidth is full.

sounds like some douche is ddos'ing them then.. that or berkley cut their funding for new servers.. :p

And on behalf of the [H]ard Commandos, thanks for a gracious fight! Having friendly rivalries with teams like yours makes this whole thing that much more interesting, and as Alan said, I'm sure you'll keep us on our toes! For example, if someone on your team were to start Prime Sierpinski teams on both projects and got together some ramping help, we'll be scrambling to stay ahead of you guys! :D Not that I want to give out any hints to rival teams or anything...

Again, well fought, and keep crunching for the cure(s)! Oh, yeah, and all that math stuff, too...

So I was trying to figure out why we keep jumping spots on Milkyway as none of us have talked about attacking that project, so I looked at our team's stats - anyone else notice mfl0p putting up 20K RAC over on that project? He's doing a [H]ard raid all by himself! Rock on mfl0p, and welcome to the Commando fun!

I am out of cores, that is the only reason we don't have teams in those projects. The majority of our team is running just BOINC projects. There is only 2 of us on the non-BOINC stuff. Rosetta is our "official" project.

I wonder if he is running the ATI stream client. That is supposed to put out big points. I think you need a 48xx card and a 64bit OS to use it.

Yes he is running ATI optimized MilkyWay and I'm running the SSE4.1 cpu optimization on it.
You can get them here: http://www.zslip.com/
If you run one of the SSE optimization use CPUZ to see what version SSE support your cpu has.
Be sure that you exit Boinc by Advanced Shutdown Connected Client and check Task Manager to make sure it is all exited.
Then unzip the files in your C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway directory and start Boinc.

i quit doing milkyway when they had a database corruption and i lost 7k points and my account was removed because they used a week old backup.. friggin pissed me off..

btw just thought id let yall know.. if you only run seti just for the gpu aspect do not use the new enhanced seti addon thing that razor linked further up.. because its really only for hardcore seti people so you can run multiple seti projects at once on your gpu's and cpu cores.. so if your like me that does multiple boinc projects and only runs seti to keep the gpu busy.. then this isnt for you... it will give 1 seti project to your gpu then use one of your cores to run another seti project at the same time.. so unless you want to do that id advise to not use it..

You can edit the app_info file to have it just run on the GPU. That way you get the current opt app and still use you CPU for other projects.

That is incorrect.

I run only Cuda-Seti work units on 2xGPU at the same time as any of my normal cpu type projects like MilkyWay or WCG - 1 cpu work unit/core by doing the following:
Run Boinc 6.6.0
Set your Seti preferences in your Seti account area to:

Run only the selected applications:
(check) SETI@home Enhanced
(no check) Astropulse
If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? (no check)
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available (check)

Use the V9 of modified SETI MB CUDA for latest single or multi GPU only use.
V8 did not support multi GPU
V7 did support multi GPU

Do not use cc_config.xml file.

Boinc 6.6.0 will give you unlimited daily quota of Seti work units if you set your Additional Work Buffer under your Boinc Prefrences to 10 days of work.
So be careful not to download to many.

2xCudaSeti units and 2xcpu non-Seti projects all running on a duel core with no problems.
The optimized CudaSeti uses only like 1-2% cpu per CudaSeti unit running.

ive done that.. and with the v9 it wants to run 1 project on the gpu and 1 project on a cpu core.. so i went back to the old ones..

but see theres a difference between the multi gpu one and the gpu cpu.. where as the multi gpu only supports multiple cards and no cpu client.. and the other ones do gpu and cpu.. either way its not what i want and the old ones work perfectly fine.. except the fact that the last 5 projects i had in queue all got computation errors from me switching stuff back and forth trying to figure out a way to force it not to do one of the projects on the cpu.. and yes im using the cc_config change that sets boinc to do 3 projects at a time which is what was recommended in the v7. so unless we arent suppose to be using that any longer.. which he didnt state that in the thread..but if you dont believe me.. go run it on a system with only one gfx card..

Well I downloaded MW@home to run on my ATI card (Thanks for the directions Razor!), but It only ran about 12 WUs and now it says it has reached its daily limit. You can only run 12 WU's per day?

Also I can seem to join the [H]ard|OCP team. I dont get a link anywhere on our team page that says Join team.

its in some weird spot metallicafan if im not mistaken.. i dont believe its on the actual team page.. i think it shows up when you search for the team or something.. since my accounts gone from MW@H i cant really check..

I have done V7 and V9 on single GPU and multi GPU setups and they run just as I said. V8 will only run 1 GPU on a multi GPU setup.

Do not use the cc_config.xml file like he stated on that website other wise your Boinc thinks it has more GPU's than you really do and then it will download a CPU unit aswell.
It may also be the version of Boinc your using, I have seen some versions download cpu work even if you have it set to no cpu work in your preferences - I suggest Boinc 6.6.0

You can only download 12 wu at a time. Once 1-2 are complete it uploads them and downloads 1-2 to replace them.
I believe the daily limit has been raised to something like 5000 units/day. It was mentioned on the MilkyWay home page under the news area.
I have ran about 700 units in the last 48 hours.

Under Community on the right side of your MilkyWay account screen it says : Member of team or Join Team
Try this link and look about half way down for Join this team and click on it.
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/team_display.php?teamid=1011

Edit: It shows you as a member of our team now.

Well I searched for the Hard team about 4 different ways on their site and finally found a join team link. They need to make that a little easier!

Anyway my ATI card seems to be moving along now. I detached from the project and reattached and things are going good now. Man this thing is just tearing through WUs. I wont be able to run this card full time but I figured I'd jump in and help a little here. :)

Thanks for the help Razor.

Yes, there is more RAC where that came from.

I been doing my darnedest to try to keep up with a couple little duel cores but theres no way in heck I can keep up with the speed of (how many you running?) ATI GPU.

Wow look at how fast metallicafan is coming up on me. Damage Inc.
metal.gif

Took me 16 hours to do 4100 points on a 4ghz E8400 and he puts in 3500 points in an hour!

And check these out: Shows just how fast MilkyWay runs on ATI video cards.

I'll be moving my duel core back to a cpu only project now. I think Eon.

Damn! Now I REALLY want one of those ATI cards... Can't wait til tax returns get here so I can get moar "D"...

On a different note, has anyone running yoyo had an issue with the evolution WUs freezing up? I lost all my work today after they locked and proceeded to do nothing while I was gone! I went in and shut them off in my preferences, but was wondering if it was just me having issues... The ecm and ogr units work great, though!

Crap, why wont that run on my 4670? Now I am going to have to charge the old lady for sex so I can get a 48xx.
