DC Vault 2

WUProp now has an Activity option that lets you see how much time is given to various projects by a specific host. To find it, just click on the Computers on this account link on your account at the project website and then choose Activity under the device name. This can be handy if people crunch for more then one project and are trying to regulate the amount of time spent at each one. (This is really helpful if you are improving WUProp badge)
 
That's a really nifty feature. Very useful for budgeting time.

On a side note, I picked up a ton of ABC work units last night. It is taking forever to hit my goal there. I also added a couple borged laptops to the DIMES push. They aren't 24/7 crunchers but hopefully will give a little boost. I have a friend who is wanting to add 4 desktops to her home so that the kids have their own gaming box/Netflix streaming in their rooms. If I can swing it, I may be able to get her 4 Dell Optiplex 330's/360's (dual core Intels). I'm gonna try and get her to let me put DIMES and BOINC on each. Here's crossing my fingers.

I just looked and it seems that I will pass Phoenicis tonight in DIMES for spot 2. Now if I would ever get around to re-assembling my Q8200 and possibly getting another quad core upgrade I can make a DIMES box to boost me closer to Razor_FX_II

Well the 4 desktops for my friend has been approved. I just have to wait for the next batch. So, that could be up to 8 more borged cores.
 
Just hit my 10M goal in Moo! Wrapper AND my 20M goal in DPAD (Muon)...

Time to move the ATI GPU over to Collatz to get that up to 10M... Oh, and get back at "Coleslaw" for just mowing me in it! :) But mostly because the only two projects it runs well is Moo! and Collatz...

In addition, I just realized I need to get 100 hours in 2 projects to get my first WUProp badge, and have about 50 hours in Primegrid for Android... Once Collatz switches over, I'm set!
 
Sorry about that Jathanis. Those are my little GPU crunchers. Mostly borgs with low end integrated stuff. Some of which have very limited options. It shouldn't be hard to reclaim that spot. Most of my stuff is at SETI/BETA and GPUGrid with a little dabbling in PrimeGrid. My 650 Ti is also waiting for me to get off my arse and re-assemble my Q8200. I haven't really decided which PC gets which cards yet. I also need to really get a couple more good PS's because most of the leftovers around my house either don't have the connectors or the guff or both.

On another note, SIMAP has issued the last of their work units until next month, so doesn't look like we will have much of a push. So, my alternate projects will probably be getting a bump this month. I may hit a non-Vault project FightMalaria since they are getting closer to completion.

If anyone has a preference for next month, chime in. I was thinking Docking, but I've read that they have been having issues with some peoples preference getting over written when attaching. Not sure if I want to play in that mess or not.

Yeah, I guessed as much, just wanted to see how sleep deprived you were with the new little one... :D But it looks like it may be a bit, as the keyboard on my HTPC died, and Collatz is erroring out on it, so until my new KB comes in from Amazon, I can't get it going...

And I've been having pretty good luck with those Primegrid TRP Sieve WUs for Android - I'm averaging about 6-7 hours per WU on my 1.5 GHz Galaxy S3 and 8-9 on my old 1.2 GHz Galaxy Tab.
 
Don't forget that Windows has the On Screen Keyboard that you can use. I believe it is located in the Windows\System32 folder. I know it sucks to have to use, but it is an option.

As far as sleep goes, I'm doing pretty good. I returned to work a little early. My wife is doing the late night baby shifts since she can nap during the day. So far the baby sleeps most of the night. Sometimes we have to wake her to get her to eat. She's been a pretty good baby.

Got my first WUProp badge, 20 apps with >100 hours run time...

Ironic that 13 of those 20 are over 1000 hours and are eligible for the ruby star! Guess I need to do less focused crunching and spread out more to add those WUProp stars. :D

Gilthanis, it sounds as if you've gotten lucky in the baby lottery! That's almost the complete opposite is most new borns.

Kai, I have been pretty lucky with her. She was a little fussy yesterday/last night, but over all she is doing good with her day vs. night.

I would have been interested in the card, but alas I have no monies to spend for a while. My last several systems have all been recycled from work/friends/dumpster dives.

I am also adding 2 more laptops (3 total cores) to my part time borg list and also another single core laptop to my 24/7 list until I find a new home for it. (back light on the display is bad and I'm not buying a new one for an old laptop.)

I also hit 1 million points in OProject

Kai, that is a pretty clean setup. You wouldn't want to see the huge mess I navigate right now. I can honestly say that I am down to about half of the systems/parts laying around from a year ago.

WCG'ers, keep an eye out for BETA work. WCG tends to shoot these out on Fridays (not a 100% of the time but historically speaking.) One of the techs said that BETA's should be here within 2.5 weeks +/- a week back on the 4th. So, any time. They also continue to state that the new Cancer project will begin early Fall which usually means September. It will be by the same group that ran HCC, but this will be different research approaches, so not a continuation.
 
Thanks, I wish it were more organized. Time to rearrange I guess. And I'm getting rid of the Mac Pro, no need for it. Hey, doesn't really matter how they look as long as they're crunching, right?

Ooooh! Nothing better than a beta unit to crunch. Sometimes means there's progress on the science side of things, hence the need for new stuff to compute.
 
Hey...that Mac Pro (if it is a laptop) could be put to use at Quake Catcher Network with no extra hardware. QCN is also an NCI project. Just saying. :)
 
It's only a huge tower of doom. 2 x 3.06 X5675's though. I just can't get it to play nice with BOINC though, overheats or has other issues. So, it has to go!

I hope you guys don't mind, but right now I'm concentrating on getting 10million in Einstein, and hoping to be in the top 50 for RAC. After I get that I'll switch to some other projects. I promise!!!!

Oh, Gil, that thing I sent should arrive tomorrow I hope!
 
Kai, I saw that about the shipping. I'm already preparing a swap out by not accepting any more tasks.

Yeah, I would send that Mac Pro packing as well. Don't worry about hitting Einstein. It is a worthy project and helps our position in the Vault. I'm still working on SETI/BETA which I really don't care a whole lot about.

Since SIMAP was out of work and WCG will probably get a lot of my attention when the next sub project launches, I am going ahead and attaching to Docking now. That way it gets a little of my time. :)

oh and Jathanis, one of those laptops had a capable AMD GPU and was actually a dual core instead of a single. So, that will be another part time Collatz/Moo! producer to help keep you on your toes. LOL

Yay, just what I needed! :D Well, right now Collatz isn't a factor, as it errors out no matter what I try. I reverted to old 11.12 ATI drivers, tried the 12.1 & 12.2, even did all the renaming AMDXXX.dll to ATIXXX.dll stuff, and got nothing. Once I have a few spare bucks, I'm thinking I'm going to invest in some newer faster video cards! For now, my NVidias are good for Enigma, Poem and Primegrid, so once I get 1M in Enigma, I'll push Poem to 1M, then try for 25M in Primegrid. My 4850 will be dedicated to Moo! until it dies...

I've seen some good deals in the FS/FT fourm, and if I can score a good 650/660/560TI and a 6950/7850/7870 for $100 each or less, I could get a big bump in one project each NVidia & ATI... And if I can get some old gear together, I'm going to try to get my old q9550 back up and running, which could give me two more video cards - just needs funds for a new PSU and a "new" 775 mobo (another FS/FT find, I think)... If only money grew on trees!
 
I hear you. My Q8200 keeps calling me but then my baby screams louder. I'm hoping to have it somewhat ready today. However, house chores are all in the way.

I had difficulties with this laptop for a bit. It worked before I wiped it. It wouldn't detect OpenCL but would CAL after a fresh install. It happened with 13 and version 10 of Catalyst. What got even weirder is that when I went from 10 back to 13, it started working until a reboot. Then it lost OpenCL again. I even tried manually installing the SDK. Same thing happened again. Then I reinstalled 13 over itself again and the last 3 reboots it has retained OpenCL capabilities. This is one of the huge reasons I tend to stick with nVidia products. However, thanks to Kai, I will be setting up an AMD box. :)

Jathanis, I think you should take a look here: https://www.freerainbowtables.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3896 I don't know if Collatz requires OpenCL 1.0 or 1.01, but it seems that AMD stopped supporting the 4000 series cards. That may be your trouble. I couldn't remember which card you said you had the trouble with and didn't want to read back through all the posts. But if it is your 4850 then I would check to see what OpenCL it is that Collatz needs.
 
I just found out that my internet provider Mediacom is going to a tiered system where you only get so much data based on your plan. So, I will have to monitor for a bit to see if my usage should be a concern. This may put a dampener on my DIMES output.
 
I don't think DIMES uses much bandwidth at all as it's just pings and traceroutes. Most projects, from what I've seen and read, don't tend to use much data with the exception of MJ-12. It's worth monitoring to see what you're using though, just in case.
 
Well Kai, I broke down and picked up another power supply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17-438-007&Tpk=N82E16817438007 So, in a few days perhaps I will fire it up. I also ordered a few cable converters from China, but I ended up deciding I didn't want to wait that long.

etothe3ric we are still saving you a seat. How are your plans for September's return coming?

Our DIMES production is still going good even with the recent drop off. Our estimated overtake times have been scaled back a bit. However, we should still get there soon. :)
 
I've picked up about 5K ppd on Dimes once I realized that version 1.0 wasn't working on my i7 - rolled it back to version 0.5.5.4, and I seem to have jumped from 6K (from just my q6600) to over 10K ppd. I'm going to install it on my wife's laptop when I get a chance, so that should help even more.

I've been meaning to try the VM thing for a while, but have just been too lazy. I'll try to get on that, too in the next few weeks!
 
Excellent! Once you have that bad boy all primed and ready to go, it'll make a huge difference for whatever GPU project you want. Good clean power means it'll hit it's boost clocks much more I'd think.

It's kind of funny how sometimes a newer application version can break functionality, sometimes altogether. Especially for linux... Getting BOINC 7.0.65 to play nice with Kubuntu and GPU's was a nightmare. Still is.

So, I've got a spicy 2650L sitting pretty in my main rig using all 16 threads of awesome for science. Also was able to lower temps of my Opterons from near the TJ Max to around 48C. DIMES you say? DIMES it'll be!!!
 
Jathanis, I had tried the 1.0 version and didn't like the setup and lack of preference control. Maybe I was missing something. I have pretty well stuck to the 0.5.5.3 32bit version. I didn't bother testing if there was any real difference in points. I find installing 32bit Java to be most used anyways and didn't want to have to install a lot of extra. VM's can rac up your points pretty quick. I would add them one at a time though because not only is RAM a concern, but also HD IO's. I have a dual core laptop that can run 4 at a time, but it brings it to a crawl. 2 on the other hand still leaves it nice and responsive. My i7 usually runs about 4, but depending on how much I push the PC, sometimes one or two will crash on me. Since the core OS runs BOINC full throttle, apps like CEP2 can really stress VM's on the same drive. I would recommend having a second hard drive for the VM's to lower that overhead.

Razor_FX_II also had recommend Win 2008 R2 for VM's if you go Windows. I don't have a legal copy, so I gotta stick with Windows 7 or Vista. I only run Linux within the VM's because I'm not a Linux kind of guy.

Kai, I agree it would be much cleaner not having the adapters. I'm also thinking fire hazard prevention too. That room is already hot enough. Central air doesn't make it up my stairs. That room has no AC unit and even if it did, it would be on the same circuit as all of the outlets with PC's running on them. Just too much draw for the old house. So, lots of fans and no side panels.
 
Gilthanis, did you mean Win Server 2008? I think I have that in my soon to disappear TechNet account. Sounds like a great excuse for a test setup! And right now, I'm running BOINC & Dimes off my SSD, so there doesn't seem to be any noticable lag, even with 1-2 instances of CEP2 (kept the limit at 2 for memory reasons)... I have been thinking of moving the data directories to an older HDD to reduce wear to the SSD, but after 8 months, I'm showing 94% life left, so it doesn't seem to be an issue...

On a different note, I just hit 40M BOINC points! I just wish there was a stat tracker that would count all points together, so I could see the totals with my 8M F@H, 20M Muon, eyc, all added in, too... :D

EDIT: And for an update, I just sent Paypal on a new P35 dual PCI-E mobo from FS/FT to try and rebuild my q9550 parts into a third computer for my BOINC farm... I mean for my daughter's use for homework and Minecraft... I thought getting the system up with the i7-950 would be enough, but it seems that 5th grade has a lot more homework, and she's using Word, Khan Academy, and Google a LOT. Mow we'll have two computers in the Family Room instead of one - and four more cores on BOINC, and two open slots for new video cards!

Jathanis, yes Windows server 2008 R2. Supposedly has better memory management.

Uh-oh, mowing you say? I don't need a haircut just yet!

Lots of life stuff has been getting in the way of concentrating on my DCing. Haven't had a lot of free time and what I have had has mostly been spent either catching up on sleep or fixing up other things, like my car. I'm really looking forward to the 12th of September when that hospital appointment finally rolls around, and hopefully they'll find out what's causing my gf's seizures pretty quickly. Things haven't been so good lately, lots of seizures in the middle of the night, meaning neither of us have been sleeping too well.
I still have to chase up what's going on with my case, been about 6 weeks now, because as soon as that gets back I can finally ditch my laptop and get a decent PC running. I haven't even had time to mess around with those servers yet beyond testing the CPUs and RAM, so none of them even has an OS on yet.
 
Jathanis- Luck for you. DIMES isn't working too well at the moment, at all, so you'll be in the lead for some time to come. mowing down one after another on your quest for supremacy!

CaptainUnlikely- My heart goes out to you and the GF. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of it and come up with a solution to at least lesson the seizures in the meantime. How're you guys doing? Sometimes, some things are far more important than DC, life gets in the way and needs attention sometimes too. Sometimes it's just in unfortunate ways.

Thanks, we're doing more or less OK apart from not really getting enough sleep. The main problem is that she can't go out on her own in case she has a seizure, because she might fall, hit her head, or anything could happen really, there's no guarantee anyone will be willing or able to help. Plus, since sometimes she forgets where she is or who people are when she's recovering, she might not even know where she lives or how to get home or anything right away, so it'd be really distressing. Obviously, she hates being stuck at home, so I try to do fun stuff with her in the evenings and at the weekend. Unfortunately, that again leaves not much time for computer related projects, but like you said - certain things take priority over others, and to me family always comes before everything else.
I got her into gaming a little, which is at least something for her to do - problem is, she loves the Sims 3 a little too much! She's doing an online course as well, so it's not like she has nothing to do in the week, it's just very frustrating for her being stuck indoors all the time.

She's a little more into computers than most girls so I'm hoping to bring her into the DC "fold" (terrible pun, sorry) and get her interested in what we do, which might also give her something to do if she can tinker with BOINC and various projects, rather than think of it as just another icon in the system tray. Maybe I could get her to get those servers set up while I'm at work one day...or maybe that's a little too much wishful thinking ;)

Tomorrow, if all goes to plan, I have some errands to run in the morning, then I'll be spending a few hours cleaning and tinkering with my car, then in the afternoon I have a few laptops to fix up and sort out. One or two will hopefully become borgs, they're nothing special but better than nothing. I currently have nothing planned for Sunday, so perhaps I'll be able to get some computer stuff done then.
