I just got a new hard drive for my T60 laptop, so I'm trying to wipe the old 100GB drive before selling it. I did the "autonuke" option in DBAN 1.0.7, and it says the throughput is about 2000 KB/s, and the remaining time is about 69 hours. I've seen other people say the autonuke option takes maybe 3-5 hours. Why is mine taking so long?

google "secure erase"... read, learn, Be happy :)

Cliffnotes: Sine 2001 every ATA hard drive has a hardware driven wipe command built into it called secure erase. It was introduced as part of the ATA instruction set. All drives have it built in... just have to be able to figure out how to initiate it (can be tricky).

I used dban and it was taking too long so I tried killdisk and ccleaner and it took a few hours.
