Hi all,
I am in the process of picking hardware for my next webserver. One quetion that I have debated with myself is the data storge method, specifically Hard Disk or SSD.

I know with prices going down on SSDs that I don't have to worry about over priced hardware. For the sake of the argument we will assume that Hard Disks and SSDs cost the exact same no matter the capacity. With that said....

SSDs will not replace RAID and backups, but what are the chances of loosing data on an SSD versus HDDs over a 4 year time period?

Will the constant data read and writes destroy the SSD in less than 10 years?

Is there any benifit at all for choosing SSD over HDD? And finally, what should I do?

Background: This is for a webserver that gets no more than 10000 hits in a month, with 500 unique visits a month. It is a webserver hosted at my house for a personal site.

Not sure how they would hold up under said loads. At the current juncture if I were to create a webserver with an SSD component I would have all static components held on the SSD (home pages, images, whatever) with any dynamic data held on the HDD(s). Perhaps updating the SSD image every once and again.

Sounds Good. Thanks for the input guys. I think I will begin building here soon.

Its gonna run Ubuntu Server with a SSD. I don't think I can afford SLC so I will have to go with MLC. It will last a while from what I read.
