Ok I'm pretty sure I shorted out my SATA HDD, my system no longer recognizes it. Is there anyway that I can recover the data from it?
 
Well, if you determine that you did in fact short out your drive, a possibility is getting another *identical* drive and swaping out the circuit board on the bottom
 
Hmm. sounds tricky. Is this easy or could I possibley screw both drives up?
I'm not fer sure if I want to spend 130 on fixong this one when I can get a new 250g for 120 @ newegg. any other possible fix's?
 
if the drive still spins you are fine. install an OS on a separate drive then download and run either Restorer2000 pro, or File Scavenger and have the program search the other drive for the raw data. even if windows does not recognize the drive, the recovery software will. You can then recover the files from that drive onto another drive by transfer. Do NOT recover the files onto the drive your recovering data from, you will lose your shit. Transfer it all to a diff drive. As long as you don't fook with your drive anymore and it still spins, then your data is still there and you can recover it. Simple enough. if the drive doesn't spin, well then you are fooked and you need to take it to a tech.

I just dled File Scavenger and where do I go to load the "dead" hardrive? Whenever I click the drop down box "Look in" I just don't see the hd, all I see is A:, C:, and Disk 0 34.7GB. I'm trying to recover information from my WD 160GB. Is this becaues Windows doesn't recognize it? I think I heard the hardrive power up and it feels a little warm so I think it's spinning.

That is correct. I kave even tried hooking it up to another system and that one does not see it either. guess i am stuck trying the circuit board trick cuz I do not believe it is spinning. Thanx for the help folks.
