Data Loss from OC?

I've decided that I want to OC my work machine (S939 A64 3500+ Venice 2.2Ghz), because I'm starting to do some DVD encoding on it.

I just want to know. Is there any way that a crash from OC can incur data loss? Has it happened to you?
 
yes, if it is not stable. But an OC for your setup will reduce dvd encoding time from 190 mins to 185 mins (just an example). I don't think it is worth it. How much use has that system had in its life?
 
yes it can happen.. sometimes i use a back up hard drive with the os i plan to use on it and prime 95 and coretemp and speedfan on it if i really plan to push a processor when overclocking.. but for basic overclocks that i know will be stable i dont..

the s939 venice cores can only overclock to about 2.6-2.8ghz.. they arent that great of an overclocking processor.. its fun to screw with and unless its just a system thats sitting around and only going to be used for dvd encoding then it should be fine.. but if its a daily use rig ya might want to look into upgrading to at least a dual core..

It's had almost daily use since 2005. Is that a good or bad thing?

Ok, I get the feeling I should just stop being lazy and transfer the files to my CD2 rig.
 
if you have an extra hard drive like an old 40 gig or something just disconnect the hard drives in that system and plug the older drive in and use that for the overclocking.. once it all works and is stable plug the other ones back in..
