Data disappeared off USB flash disk?

Today, I plugged in my USB flash drive and noticed that I don't have anything under a folder I have in there called PERSONAL DATA. There's 2 folders; PERSONAL DATA, and UTILS. I looked into the drive properties, and it said that I'm taking up 111MB of space, but when I highlight all the folders but the PERSONAL DATA one, there's only 83MB taken. The rest of the space is supposed to be inside of PERSONAL DATA, but when I check the properties of that one folder, it says 0 bytes.

WTF is going on?

BTW: It's a Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256, I've never had a problem with it ever.

EDIT: I've also tried it on 3 different computers.
 
Have you tried running a scandisk on it from windows? That's what I would try first. Also, try the drive in a computer with a different OS if you have not already.
 
I have seen many many times when using flash drives that if you copy data over to them and dont eject them properly from within windows the data will not be there when you go an plug it back in. I was getting very mad one day at work when I was trying to transfer driver from one PC to the next becasue I would copy it then take it to the other machine and the data would not be there. But then I started using the eject and its always there. Its worth trying to see if that helps ya out any.
 
Maybe the data is corrupted. Not much you can do now, as far as I know. Always use the "Safely remove hardware" dialog, its an extra two seconds work.

^^^^ i've made this mistake on more than one occasion :(
 
The only time that I've had trouble with data disappearing off a drive is under windows 2000. Even on that OS, the only time I've had trouble is when I write something and immediately pull the drive. Under windows xp and 98, I pull it as soon as the light goes out and it's just fine.

Back on topic, I'm not sure what your next step might be at this point. If your data is really important, there are several data recovery programs that will allow you to scan a drive and see what can be recovered before you pay them anything.

That might be what I'll do.

I'll take a stroll over to the Software section and look for some free choices.
