Purolator dropped off my new server today :)

Bought my self a new Asus 1U server ordering a 32 gig DDR3 ECC memory kit next week with a quad core Xeon processor.

Nice! I've been itching to build/buy a new server, just can't afford it now. My 8GB of ram in my current box is just not cutting it anymore. That and I want to look at another virtualization solution without screwing with my production stuff.

What do you have for a hypervisor now? Depending on what you are moving to / from there are actually some very easy conversions.
 
VirtualBox, planing to look at KVM. But trying to figure out the coroloation of KVM and Qemu as it's really confusing, it seems they're the same, yet they're not. May look at ESXi or Xen too, still debating.

Either way I will most likely have to take an acronis image of my VMs then restore it to the new solution and hope for the best.
 
KVM and Qemu are good, but I would recommend ProxMox for an open source hypervisor if that is the way you want to go. If you are looking to go to ESX there are pretty simple conversion guides (and I think VMware has an import tool) to bring in VB vms.

I picked this box because it was on sale ( 499 ) takes a nice cpu and 32 gigs is plenty for me at home here.

PLUS ITS A VERY QUIET UNIT! :)

lol correction- I hit up your sight and saw more of what I wanted. How much did that chair set you back?
 
After putting my 5 moth old daughter to be, i got a few min to snap some pictures and ( slide ) it into the rack no rails just slit it in and on top of my other server. I can't turn it on till the cpu is ordered and ram is here.

Looking nice! So with the new Dell servers when you have empty trays can you put drives in them? The older serries would put some kind of "dummy" tray where a drive does not fit in it.

Proxmox is KVM with some really nice management stuff.
