Kotaku is full of pussies who post retarded articles who can't fight their way out of a paper bag, they are unworthy of being linked to on this site.

Their authors are garbage who post sensational articles for the sake of page clicks rather than having any sort of journalistic integrity.

In short, fuck Kotaku, I will not go to their site.

I will look for my Dark Souls articles elsewhere.

From are great. They have a real indie vibe going. Their products all play like something that was built with love instead of focus testing. One of the very few Japanese devs that seems to have that going on.

Do you know if that's an example of how player characters can be customized, or are they using some enemy model? I'd love to make a fat character.

From the screen, I think it's a character model. It's got an inventory and stats and everything. I mean I'm sure the monsters have stats but are they displayable like that ? I think the character creation tools have a wide variety, but yeah maybe it's a transformation item or a cursed item ? Definitely something unhuman looking about it.

If they do have a beastiary, I think that'd be really cool, you could keep track of strengths and weaknesses of other monsters, I think they said they would have twice as many different monsters as the first game?

If that's true, then that's good news, I love variety.

Man, 60 hours and only a quarter of the game?

And people question why I am so hyped over this game.

    lets see
first of all,as of right now dark soul's unplayable online
fromsoftware fucked up something and game constantly freezes
they have unplugged online portion of game to work on patching / finding problem.
second Japanese players have said that game is difficult but they done it in wrong way
they merely raised difficulty of game by having overwhelming number of regular monsters
and they will chase you for long enough that you will have train behind you often and they have severely limited HP recovery items.

making it hard to progress for most

Well that sucks, but they did say they wanted to make it even harder.

I'll reserve judgement till I play it.

So it sounds like there are more enemies on screen and larger mobs on top of even better graphics ? Awesome.

Dark Souls will undoubtedly make it hard to progress. It took me a couple days to beat the first level of Demons Souls. And running past the enemies always had some risks. It works in a lot of places but will guarantee your death in others, when you can't ditch the crowd chasing you. I think most levels of the first game were easier if played slow and methodically rather than trying to dash through.

It depends on how it's implemented. I like a good challenge, but I still want it to be fair, so I have no choice but to reserve judgement untill it's in my hands.

Glad to see Dark Souls will have the type of following that Demon's Souls didn't have, and come closer to the mainstream. Shame this thread had to degenerate into a "if you don't like DS, you must be bad at games' situation.

For those of you who are skeptical about the game's difficulty, don't be concerned. It's not cheap hard, trust me (all the critics who reviewed the game online agree on this point). You'll improve little by little everytime you die and respawn, and that progress keeps you engaged without frustration setting in. For whatever reason, DS was the type of game where even if you died and replayed the same area 10 times, the 10th attempt was just as much fun as the first attempt.

That said, I'm not sure why the only thing everyone talks about is the freakin difficulty. That's NOT what made DS the great game that it was, it was but one of many components. My favorite aspect of the game is the massive level of character development, customization, & upgrade-ability. You guys need to remember that FROM Software are the guys behind the Armored Core series, which may have more weapons/parts that are all made from scratch (as opposed to the Borderlands style algorithm) than any game I've ever played. DS was much the same way in the realm of RPGs. Tons of weapons, but you can upgrade each weapon countless times until, eventually, it morphs into a new 'super' weapon. And every weapon handles differently. As a result, no 2 peoples' playthroughs will ever be the same. You have the tools to conquer the difficulty in any way you see fit.

Alright, that was my pitch. If you're skeptical, just give it a rental. Chances are, if you're at least persistent enough to make it through the first boss, you'll be hooked and you'll understand why DS spawned such a loyal following. It wasn't an accident.

Yeah the upgrade system is pretty sweet. Collecting loot, finding hidden things, and upgrading is all very rewarding. Dark Souls is supposed to have twice as many "items" as DS.

Wow, that's terrific news! Only drawback is, at least with my OCD-light nature, if I finally settle on upgrading one weapon and devote all my resources to it, I will forever wonder how the 'other' weapons would've turned out had I chose them instead. Hard to make a decision and live with it. For most people, that's what multiple playthroughs are for, but I don't typically play through more than once.

In other words, choose your weapons wisely...I guess.

Oh, perhaps it's worth mentioning...if any of you guys would like to swap your PSN's, shoot me a pm with your psn. Or leave it here if you want. I prefer not to post mine in the thread as I try to be selective about who I add. That said, I only have 2 other PSN buddies who are getting Dark Souls on release, so it would be nice to build that up...for all of our benefit.

I wonder if we could have players here keep a tally of how many deaths they've accrued and at what hour mark. Would be interesting data.

On a side note, I shall wade through these enemies as a scythe through wheat!

I've been hearing that the difficulty on Dark Souls is such that you will probably need online coop help to make it through some areas. In Demon's Souls, as difficult as it was, I was able to do the entire campaign solo with the exception of the false King Allant. Apparently, this is making it hard for some of the reviewers rate the game because they were given offline-only copies of the game.

I took your advice and I stuck with it this time. I'm near the end of the game and I wouldn't want the difficulty any other way. You learn, adjust, adapt and eventually survive. It also wasn't as difficult as I thought.

I'm looking forward to more punishment and reward come October 4th.

Check out this excerpt from IGN's review:

"The difficulty is central to Dark Souls' ethos, and shouldn't be considered a fault. Without it, it wouldn't be the game that it is, it wouldn't require the same ingenuity and persistence from you, and its rewards would not be so sweet. There are times, though, when Dark Souls crosses the line from thrillingly challenging to straightforwardly sadistic. There are frog-like sewer-dwelling creatures that can Curse you with their attacks, instantly reducing your health bar to half its former size; the only way to get cured is to visit a healer hidden deep within a dangerous ghost-populated area that's a long, long journey away (or to buy an item from a vendor, if you've got enough souls).

Making your way through Dark Souls' death-trap world with half a health bar is hard enough, but the Curse effect stacks – so if you get caught again, you'll be down to a quarter of a health bar. A third time, you'll be down to an eighth. I know one Dark Souls player who lost something like 10 hours trying to make it to a healer when everything in the world could kill him with one hit. "

LOL, I found that hilarious for some reason. This is going to be one intense experience. 4 more days gentlemen.

I wonder how fail got banned? Maybe from making countless DS threads.

Anyway, I'll try to update the OP on this to have more relevant release/game info and a nice badass picture.
