The main Dark Souls thread is so huge that it's hard to find the info about the mods you would want to use and why, so here is a list.

In September 2013, an unnumbered patch was pushed through Steam which broke previous versions of several of these mods, so current versions of the mods are necessary. The patch and the subsequent fixes to the mods also made various walkthroughs of how to install these mods outdated.

DSFix 2.2 - the reason you bought the PC version of Dark Souls. Just like the console versions, the unmodified PC version of the game renders at 1024x720, no matter what your native resolution. Which sucks! DSFix lets the game render at any resolution, removes the 30 FPS cap allowing you to play at 60FPS, and includes some other very nice graphics options, too many to list here.
  • Before you install DSFix, run the game and turn off Anti-Aliasing.
  • Make sure you have DSFix working before you add other mods.
  • "DSfix isn't meant for more than 300mb of extra textures. It's a limitation with how the injector accesses the engine. You need to get under 300mb." (Source)
  • Comments below recommend unlocking the frame rate but keeping it set to 30FPS for best results.

Dark Souls HD Texture Pack 3.0 Lite
- 300MB of better textures that comes under the 300MB limit for DSFix.

Dark Souls SweetFX HDR - more graphics improvements, apparently intended to work with DSFix. I am entirely unfamiliar with this mod myself and would welcome comments from those who have used it.

DSMFix 1.0.2.0 - if you have to play Dark Souls with a keyboard and mouse, you need this mod. That being said, you really should be playing Dark Souls with an XBox 360 controller instead of the keyboard and mouse.

DSCFix 1.2 - improves the connection to friends in your GFWL friend list when they have it installed as well. It does break the connection type used for the Battle of Stoicism arena, but from what I have read that is a small loss because of player abuses having already broken that arena. When GFWL gets shut down in July 2014, this mod will obviously become irrelevant.

DSVFix - a once-popular anti-hacking mod that is now obsolete. The September 2013 game patch brought all of this mod's features into the official PC game, making it the same as the latest version of the official PS3 game, so there is no need to install it anymore.

If there are any other significant mods, please post and I will add to the list!

What's the problem with motion blur? Seems to be getting along fine with DSFix over here.
Yes, there is no incompatibility between DSFix and Motion Blur as far as I'm aware. I would recommend avoiding setting the frame rate to anything higher than 30. It not only breaks the physics, but also decreases the reaction windows when in combat. If you want to make PvP harder on yourself, then by all means go ahead. I do recommend, however, that you unlock the frame rate and set it to 30. For whatever reason it makes the game run better.

I think I read somewhere that unlocking the frame rate could get you a GFWL or VAC ban?
