I recently purchased Dark Messiah of Might and Magic off of Steam, and can't get the d-pad of my Belkin Nostromo n52 Speedpad to work as a joystick. I like to use the Nostromo's d-pad to move forward, back, strafe left, and strafe right in FPS games. Other Source engine games support joysticks, such as Half-Life 2 and its two episodes.
I tried using the same exact settings that I use in the Half-Life 2 autoexec.cfg files to setup the joystick, but the settings don't seem to work with Dark Messiah. And I know that you need to add "+exec autoexec.cfg" to the game launch options to enable Dark Messiah to use an extra config file, unlike Half-Life 2.
I can use the Belkin software to configure the d-pad to emulate the WASD keys, but this doesn't work as well as pure joystick support. For instance, you need to make macros in order to move diagonally. If you want to be able to use the d-pad to move forward and strafe left at the same time, you'd need to make a macro consisting of "W"+"A".
