Danger! Big Gap Ahead!

5,027,924

And that gap just keeps getting bigger. :D Seems Silicon still hasn't taken his dump yet though, almost a week plus of backlogged work though.

I should have all 150ghz+ ghz of my farm up and going in the next few weeks. Still waiting on the finish out and building inspections before I can install the farm into it's new home.

5 million points ahead and still kicking the sh*t outta the aussies. score one for us!

Thread title sounds like my last date...

Nice lead, I think we will need this and a whole lot more. The swings for the teams lately seem to be large, so keep piling it up while we can!

@ Penguincomp-- wussy. Bring it... :D

Oh my. I clicked on this thinking it was the inverse of the 56 pointer complaint thread. My 6 CPU's here have been chewing on 449 pointers for the past couple days... I should have a 2-3k dump in the next day or so... Should make up for my past two dry days...

Well I don't know where Sillicon is based out of, but he's been having quite a bit of the ups and downs since the new year. I also can't help but wonder how the cyclone that recently hit is affecting things.

pfft only 26 active processors in the last 50 days. I got that many. Don't know why everyone is stressing this guy. I got it don't worry :p

Silcon left the reg key ID in his images. I've done this too, throws off the CPU count.

Also, from what I can tell the issue is upstream bandwidth. FaH is very rude on the uploads, and with 600+ machines dumping this has a effect on the overall network. Close port 8080 on the router/firewall-- no more uploads. One big A on/off switch.

QFT - for people on dialup this will pwn your connection for 5 minutes. Having a single connection, and a fast network on the other end, will push almost anything out of the way. Maybe there should be an option to limit bandwidth use. All it has to do is usleep() a certain number of ms between send()s.

/me jumps over to FCF...

Well it seems that big gap just keeps on getting bigger. 5.5 million and growing, Sillicon is still MIA too. Time to really kick it into gear so we can stave them off for the summer months. :D

Does anyone know what happened to Silicon_Wars? Historically, his production has occasionally dropped when there's a network problem, but it's always come back. Did someone decide that F@H was unacceptable to be running on the computers? Uninstalling from that many computers, even via group policies, can't be fun. Maybe some wise guy played with the firewall/proxy, and F@H can't get through? Does anyone know?

I just pulled my garden back in to the mix as well. I was paying off some utility bills and other bills before I ramped the garden back up. I had most machines off unless being actively used to save a few bucks for a while. This past weekend, I turned it all on again.

Now, sitting on the bench without homes are a new LGA 775 Intel 670 3.8 and a 478 3.4. One will become my new machine and the other is looking for a home.

This is friggen great to see you guys still rallying around what ever you can find just to keep it fun and focused. As one of the old timers here it does my heart good.

Does anyone know?

I've checked over at the OCAU forums, to see if there is any word on what's going on, but I didn't see anything that called out what's happening, just alot of when/where/if whomever comes back they'll be taking the lead back this summer. So I think the assumption is that he'll be back eventually, just no one knows when.

Oh, and the gap is still at 5,552,451. Moar folding!!!

^^ What he said

And, if you're looking to get rid of that s478 3.4, lemme know... :D

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

5,515,922 gappage, and falling.

We've been in #1 spot for 99 days. Let's not give it up to our Aussie friends.
Fold On!

So I tried UD.... on 3 boxen... for more than a month... My own conclusion is that FAH is more fun , offers more tweaking fun, offers more immediate feedback, offers more ways to crank up some competition. Does this mean I'm disrespecting UD... not on your a&&.... it just means that I've tried both FAH & UD and prefer FAH for my hobby (oh yes, my hobby does get to provide some charitable contribution to science !)

The bottom line is 3 boxen back to to FAH to extend our gap !

ok so this is abotu the folding at home thing. i d/l it and started it. whats so special about it?
Well, now.... :) What platform (cpu, speed, & OS) are you running ? Did you run the GUI or console client, what flags did you run ? What version of the client are you running ? In other words, are you getting the maximum ppd for your available hardware ? But if you are running more than one instance or more than 1 boxen you need a way to keep track of the production. Are you using EMIII, or another monitor ? Have you looked at hardfolding.com for your stats & comparisons ? Is the gap between the [H]orde & the roos getting bigger or smaller ?

OK, that should keep you busy tonight, I'll check back with you tomorrow night :D

Folding@Home is special because you can use your idle cpu power to further scientific research. The research is open, meaning that anyone can read the papers that have been published on Stanfords medical/protein research. You have the possibility to help in the discovery of the cure for cancer and alzheimers etc.

Know anyone that has died from cancer? Fold for them, and hope one day that cancer will be no more.

the gui version is a good way to get your feet wet in this. but eventually you will probably want to move to the console version using em3 to moniter it. but take it slow, sit down, relax..and enjoy yourself :)

FOR THE HORDE

Gappage getting smaller . 5,478,343 .. Be tough everybody... find a way to wring out a few more points !

& for boredguyatcomp - I really just wanted to point out that like many other hobbies, the Folding thing has many more facets than what the casual observer usually sees. We always welcome new [H]orde and hope you stick around awhile. :) Here are a couple of excellent threads:

I'm known as one of the "grumpy" guys around here, but I really do try to help when I can with specific questions... For the sake of not hi-jacking this thread any further, just go ahead & start a thread with your questions !

Fold ON !

Fixed. Your link was broken. Or rather, your vB code was broken

Thanks. I've edited it, and it now seems to be working. :)

And, our increased efforts seem to be paying off, gappage wise! :D
