Dang Dell

lol i buy dells for my company, cause they are fine for business applications and dell support really is a joke, having to explain the same goddamn thing over and over because these indians dont understand the problem.. bleh

Where I work (school district) we have the stroke me gold support number. If need be I have the American's talking to me. Although we are working on the "premier" support so we can do ourselfs online. We have the gx270's with the intergraded intel vid. But it does have an AGP BACON slot.

Carter - Be sure they give you a xt-pe or the xt I guess for pci express. Just make sure it has at least a 500mhz core speed and 1Ghz memory speed and 256bit memory buss.

And nice Dell rig man. Don't let the Dell haters get to ya. The ONLY thing wrong with Dells are the price. They use quality parts (when you order quality components ;) ) and are very solid and stable computers as already mentioned. I speak from experience. My Dell 4400 2.6/pc2100 is still here in my game room with my old 9800Pro in it. :D I'll never get back out of it what I spent for it so I'll just keep it. Maybe someday I'll do a funky custom [H]ard mod on that sucker. Put some wicked shit in it after I mod the case all out. :D

I kind of skipped over the whole middle section of the post but I was basically in the same boat as you. The 6800 GTO is a pretty sweet card. I have mine set at 442/1.1ghz with all 16 pipe enabled. This resulted in 12,111 3dmarks03. Not too shabby. Is it worth the wait? Meh. That's your decision.

The best part is I wound up making $$ of the PC. Dell's aren't so bad when you get them for free ;)

I have a question. I have the 6800 GTO and when I unlock the extra 4 pipes it does nothing. When I reboot and go back in Rivatuner it still says 12 pipes.
Am I doing something wrong or does that just mean my card won't go?

This coupon business has me confused.

Are you people saying that if I order a computer from Dell without entering in some kind of coupon code that I'm a complete fool? Well, that's exactly what I would've done. I'm simply waiting for Dell to configure their systems with 6800 GT cards.

By the way, I visited the fatwallet website and found no links to a Dell Canadian website of any sort - my order will have to go through Dell.ca

Also, what's a Dell Outlet? - is this a website that sells refurbished computers? Is there one such website available to Canadians?

Like everyone, I just want to pay the least amount of money for my Dell system - it seems absurd that I can save money, simply by knowing a code? Is this truly the case?

You have to hit apply or something similar, won't work unless you do.

Michael, there have been several crazy dell coupons going around. The main one I used was good for 12 hours and was for 40% off systems of $2500 or more. You really have to keep on top of deal sites in order to find out about the codes. I waited until the last 45 minutes to place my order. Their service is a joke, but so far this thing has worked out pretty well. Unfortunately I've only been able to overclock the vid card, haven't figured out a way to fiddle with the CPU/RAM.

got my dell 8400 with 6800 gt on friday afternoon
i was on tech support for an hour, dell kept giving me the "we dont suppor any 3rd party software speech"

after they finally admitted the card was bad,, the tech guy on duty said that due to the popularity of the card that it could be 3 to 4 weeks for a replacement,.

told him if i dont have a new card in my system by this tues the 2nd of nov ill just send the whole system back.....i got it on my dell prefered business account, i havnt made payments on it so its still actually their computer.

the customer service manager on duty said he will see what can be done..........

bet ya all i end up sending the computer back to them......

what do you think???

Well every computer is different. Some have will have bad parts and some wont. Like my bro's dell is fine so far. A whole week of gaming and everything is fine. So yea, but it sounds like there tech support isnt the best. But demanding the card to get to you that soon is kind of hard.

If they can't support their system in a timely fashion, drop them like a hot potato.

i work in manufacturing also

i understand that bad things get out.

i also understand that you better damn well fix those problems asap to keep customers....
if they would have tested that card they wouldnt have let it get to the consumer.

all they have to do is fedex me a new card mon morn and ill fedex the bad card tues back to them. Is that worth getting a 1500 dollar system send back to you cause of an inability to send out the product right the first time.

in my dept i have the lowest customer complaint to parts sold ratio for my product line, that happens cause we make sure that we fix our rare mistakes as fast as possible and take full responsibility for each bad unit that gets to our customers.

and the fact that i wrote out the purchase req for $100000 worth of dells for the production floor should improve thier ability to fix the situation. haha probably not haha

:D :D :D

Dell has completely lost my respect.

After spending 4 hours on the phone with tech support over two completely dead systems, Dell can kiss my ass.

Dead power supply, started SMOKING then quit working. I had to go through the entire troubleshooting BS before they would do anything, 2 hours on the phone for a completely inoperable system.

The next was a clicking hard drive. It was recognized in the BIOS only, nothing else ever, regardless of the OS. I spent 2 hours on the phone trying to get a warranty... I was escalated to Level 3 support for an obviously dead hard drive.

Dell has gone off the deep end. I can only hope it bites them in the ass as much as their crappy low end systems have my customers.

I cant get it to show the other piplines after I enabled them. I applied, rebooted and it still says 12.
