how many people do you have that will play...I can probably get a few

We're not sure, usually in the past we've had around 22 to 26

Sean shows off our Tower of Power!!

Very interesting combination for a LAN... "LAN of DOOM" located at University Park United Methodist Church. That's awesome! Never considered holding a LAN at a church before...

I'm part of another LAN in the DFW area. DFW Frag

We will be hosting our monthly LAN event in Irving at The Gaming Center on 08/21. Prizes so far include a 21" Dell Trinitron Flat CRT w/Dual Inputs.

The event is $15 with a $5 addition if you want to get in on the food run....

Our normal date for holding events is the 3rd Saturday of every month. Typically at The Gaming Center in Irving.

DFW|Frag has been hosting monthly LAN parties in the Dallas/Fort Worth area since May 2000.

We have worked with other events in the area in the past and we're always open to working with other LANs to host larger events.

Our current capacity is around 50 gamers. We have the equipment and experience to handle 150-200 gamer events.

Just wanted to invite you guys to that one as well... Unfortunatley, I'm not going to be able to attend the LAN of DOOM or even the DFW Frag event. Quakecon is going to totally engross me all next week. I seriously doubt that my girlfriend will allow me to LAN for a while after QC. :( Anyway, have fun and hope to see you guys at one of the LAN of DOOM events or DFW Frag.

what is Quakecon?

What is Quakecon? What is Quakecon? What is Quakecon???

It's only one of the largest LANs in the country. It's put on by fans of id Software and is basically a way of letting them know that we, the gaming communities, appreciate them. It's a 4 day 3000+ player LAN party & tournament. It's the main Quake 3 World Championships and Tournament. It's located in the DFW area each year... and most of all IT'S FREE! Check out www.quakecon.org for more info...

Quakecon 2004 is coming next week to Grapevine, Texas from August 12th-15th.

Well isnt that convient...I live in Grapevine. Sorry to sound like an idiot...I'm just new to the whole LAN thing.

Haha, no it's totally understandable. I didn't mean to come across rude or anything. Quakecon 1999 is where I got hooked on LAN gaming. I've been to QC every year since then. You can still signup on the site, but I think the BYOC (Bring your own computer) is full but they will place you on the waitlist. They have never turned away anyone that wanted to BYOC before and I don't see them turning anyone away this year either. Just get in the BYOC waitlist line early morning on Thursday and you will get in if you aren't confirmed. If you can't do the BYOC thing then you can atleast register and come visit to see what it's like. It's pretty impressive... There is much more to do then the BYOC.

It's being held at the Gaylord Texan Resort just right off of NW Highway.

Id software puts on for us... not the other way around.

But yeah it is a blast. And you leave with tons of free stuff. :D

Technically, it's paid for by id and other sponsors... It's not actually "put" on by them, because it's run entirely by volounteers like myself. Either way you look at it, it's a celebration of everything id. ;)

But, LoD will be at QuakeCon and we will be distributing fliers for the LAN, so everyone keep a heads up and say hi!

Yes it is BYOC. We are starting out so no monitors to rent out yet. As far as prizes go we are still getting them together.

Cases of BAWLS, some hardware maybe... we'll see.

Quakecon 2004 is coming next week to Grapevine, Texas from August 12th-15th.

My son and I were driving home from Fry's Electronics' Saturday Night with parts for his 1st computer when we decided to stop at FUDDRUCKERS by Grapevine Mills Mall for a burger and fries. While there we noticed several tables of people with ID Software T-shirts and credentials dangling from around their necks. I asked about Quakecon and was told that it was a gigantic LAN party sponsored by ID Software and held annually in Texas!!!! One of the tables had folks that came all the way from England. Anyway I was a Doom 1 & 2 junky along with Quake, Hexen, Heretic, Wolfenstein & Return to Castle Wolfenstein. My son and I just started playing Doom 3 but will make it a point to attend Quakecon in 2005 (assuming it doesn't conflict with the Dream Cruise). :D

Yeah this LAN is going to be very relaxed... just some good fun gaming. We'll have some tournies but there will be time for anything.

Quakecon was a blast! We had great fun! If anyone saw our flyers, w3rd up! There will be a Quake 2 and Quake 3 Tournament, Along with a Call of Duty tournament. Other tourneys will be announced!

Ok guys the LAN is still on for tomorrow...

And by the way thanks for the sticky guys!!!

Okay, here's the tourneys:

Quake 2 1v1: First Prize: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

Call of Duty (Behind Enemy Lines): First Prize: Command and Conquer Renegade and a Call of Duty Hat

Quake 3 1v1: TBA

Sorry, we only have enough funds to give prizes to first place. SO PLAY HARDER!

What? No Doom 3 tourney you ask? Hahahah. You're a funny man if you think we have the hardware to run a Doom 3 server.

Was a good lan guys thanks for having it

Gota love winning by 20+ kills in doom 3 ;)
