Quality is important.. but not so important he wants to be frivolous... ROI is relative.

Plasma still best... or LCD / LED?

Thanks for any good feedback...

Go with a Samsung or Panasonic Plasma TV

you wont be disappointed with the image quality and will be significantly cheaper than LCD alternatives.

This one's easy, Panasonic 60ST50. Compares favorably w/ last year's VT30.

Can't go wrong with this years Panasonic plasmas they're the best to date and the VT50 model won a recent 2012 HDTV shootout which consisted of current high end models, even surpassing the $6k LED Sharp Elite model which was designed by Sharp & Pioneer (makers of Kuro).

Edit: Link to shootout, there's a bunch of videos on the right of page if you want to see how they go about evaluating each TV, they're very thorough http://www.valueelectronics.com/index.htm

I'm a long time "plasma only" guy and own the 60" Kuro plasma, reportedly the best panel on the planet. That said, I was looking for a large panel for the bedroom and I ended up going with the Sony 55" HX850.. the newer LED Sony sets are wonderful panels, be sure to check them out.. they come in 60" sizes now too I believe in the EX series.
