Is it possible for me to use a USB DAC without a soundcard. I will be running the DAC to a pair of studio monitors for now...but i am currently thinking about getting a set of Klipsch Ultra Promedia 5.1.

I am prob. going to need a software to eq the monitors too...Give me some recommendations.

Of course it is.... A USB DAC is a soundcard. ;)

Do you use some sort of software to control the output i.e. treble, mid and bass.?? What about the volume. There is no volume knob on the SIlverstone EB01..what should i do??

it would show up as a sound card in windows... just like any sound card... you just use the windows volume control applet... if want to use software EQ (which i really would recommend against doing) just use the EQ in whatever software you are using (winamp/foobar/windows media player whatever)

Any recommendations for HARDWARE EQ..a very simple one...perhaps a 4 or 5 -band..

i am planning of the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1. Will the Silverstone DAC work with it. The DAC has 2 RCA outs. Doesnt the Klipsch need a soundcard with surround sound outputs?

Or yes, i will need a surround sound soundcard?
Yup.

You could actually use the portable music player input on the ultras but that would sound like crap.

Now, when you say sound like crap..? Do you mean minor noises like normal people would not hear? or are you saying the quality degrades considerably to the point its unbearable??

Is there ANYWAY at all that i can pull this off?? I like clean setups but great quality.

Is there such a thing as 4/5/6 channel surround sound DAC with USB?
