Hey guys,

So I finally talked my g/f into letting me build her a computer. She has:
Motherboard: Intel D975XBX
CPU: Pentium 4 Extreme Edition
Ram: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145568)
PSU: APEVIA (ASPIRE) ATX-AS520W-BK 520W Power Supply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148008)

Now just to give some backround, I've built 3 AMD based computers in the past which have worked flawlessly, so I have some experiance in getting them built. This is my first Intel based however, and It's been nothing but trouble.

The first obsticle I ran into was the CPU power connector. On the board it's a 2x4, however on the PSU there is a 2x2 which is what i've always used. In the manual it says to use a 2x2 to 2x4 converter, but says NOT to use it if you're using an extreme edition as it can cause damage.. So i plugged in a molex connector into what it says is an alternative power connection. When I power it up, it stays on for 2 seconds and then turns off.. Why would it be doing this

With all that good hardware, invest in a real EPS power supply, one with the 8 pin EPS connector for your board. I'm almost certain it's your power supply that's causing the issue.
