i am trying to overclock my pentium D930 cpu, here is my system specs:

Pentium D930
MSI 945P Neo2-F
2 GB Kinsgton DDRII 533 4-4-4-12
x1900xt 512mb
500w Ultra connect psu

so far i am able to get to 3.5 ghz but i hait a stability wall any higher. the msi board has some wierd settings in the bios under the cell menu. it has cpu over voltage but the increases are wierd 12.5,25,50,etc. also has north bridge voltages which is new to me. right now i am running the ram 3:4 and the fsb at 233mhz, so the ram is pretty overclocked. anyone have any reccomendations or can explain this overvoltage stuff to me?

I don't know much about the new intels, but I would first suggest using a different divider and stop overclocking the ram first. You may have hit your ram's limit thus causing instability, rather than the cpu. As far as the voltages, check out your manual for a better explanation, I'm pretty sure increasing chipset voltage will assist in stability to a certain degree, since your ram and cpu talk to each other across it. Hope this is a good start, I'm sure others will chime in. Good luck.

thanks for the reply, but the manual is useless it says "cpu overvoltage controls the multiplier as well as the vcore" how the hell are those even similar that you could put them under the same setting???

Yes.... put your ram at 1:1 for now to make sure it's not the limiting factor. After you find the limit of the cpu you can work on maxing out the ram. Those settings you are talking about in your bios sound like % of overclocks to me, that would explain the voltage/fsb being tied in. I don't have that board so this is just a guess ;)

OCing takes time if you want to do it carefully and correct.

1st you need to find the limits of every individual piece and then try to put them nicely together.

Find ram limits, board and cpu. With intel the cpu/board limit is kinda tied into each other.

Find board/cpu combo 1st and then ram.

its not the ram i set it to 667 and ran the overclock and it got to 797mhz stable. not to bad for kingston. so its gotta be something else....
