D4 noise?

I just hooked one of these pumps up and was a little surprised at how loud it is. All the reviews I've read said it was relatively quiet. I'm wondering if I have a bad pump. Seems to work ok otherwise. This is my first custom wc setup so I don't have any reference on how loud a pump should be.

I have a D4 and I find it to be really quiet. It's hard to judge quiet or loud when you're not hearing it though. All the air is out of your system? Is the noise coming from the actual pump or from the vibration it causes on another object...or is it a sloshing sound? Mine is no louder than my case fans....in fact...it's probably a decent amount quieter.

I dont know if this applies to you or not, but i've found that the pumps that i've used are only really quiet when theres absolutely no air in my loop. So I don't know if you've bled off all the air yet or not, but if not I wouldnt judge the sound of the pump until ALL air has been bled from your system

I don't think there's any more air in there. I've tilted the rig all over the place and I have a res that makes it pretty easy to bleed. It's not a sloshing noise as much as just a mechanical hum. I have it mounted with some velcro tape so no metal on metal vibration noise. It gets much more acceptable when I lower the voltage to it. I think I got a louder than normal pump judging by what you guys are saying. I've got an email into DD, we'll see what they say.

Thanks for the replies guys.

LOL wait until you put 24V DC across it... if you think it's loud now.
Compared to some junker AC $36 eheim I have the D4 pump is nice and quiet. :)

I have the D4 as well and i was a bit surprised as to how loud it was myself. Making me want to get a rhoebus. What helped though was that if you use that pad that comes w/ it along w/ some more rubber/foam to help absorb the vibrations make it quieter. But yeah. Its loud :(

I just finished putting together a new WC rig and am surprised how loud the D4 is. It's just a very loud hum - sucks ass.

Is it supposed to be quiet? I wouldn't recommend this thing to anybody.

I take back what I said about the D4. The high pitched sound it makes is not exactly loud but it can be annoying. It's not like a humming noise like other pumps...it's like....a whine. I was a little easy on it I guess. With quiet fans in your system and no headphones on....the D4 will annoy. If you have louder fans...the fans will most likely drown it out. In reality I think the noise it makes is unacceptable for a $75 pump.

I'm going to put dual c-systems pumps (waiting for D-Tek to get them in stock) for the machine in my bedroom since the D4 wouldn't be the best choice for that. It still functions excellent though and I will continue to use it where noise isn't a factor.

I can't hear my D4 at all. But it's sitting next to another system that's cooled by a Thermalright SLK800 with a 80mm Thermaltake Smart Fan II running at almost 5000 RPM............

There are lots of posts about the D4's whinny pitch problem on this forum and others. It is a excellent performing pump, but I honestly can say the annoying sound it makes almost ruins this pump for me.

No noise here. Unless I take the side off the case which has sound dampening material on it and put my ear close to the pump.

This is my experience as well. When I had air in my loop the pump was making all kinds of noise but after I got the air out it basically became near silent.

I'm sending mine back for a full refund. DD was pretty cool about the whole thing. I think I'm going to give the c-systems a try also. I am a bit concerned with the pump being made out of aluminum. Not sure about corrosion factor with my copper rad.
