Specs:

AMD K6-2 500 mhz
Asus P55T2P4 (one of the best motherboards EVER)
96 mb 60ns SIMMS (2x32, 2x16)
Linksys 100TX
3 gig WD Cavier
40 gig Hitachi Deskstar
All screwed to a piece of cardboard

Took a bit to get up but that was due to me not using a mouse. Dont have any serial connectors, dont have any split USB brackets. Had to burn a disk with NIC drivers because it couldnt find them for this card or a generic Realtek...which is weird because thats NEVER happened before. Got that stuff running, installed RAdmin, bulletproof FTP. rebooted without a CD drive or keyboard, it was fine. turned off, pulled out the vid card, restarted, and I could see it in RAdmin. unfortunatly I forgot to tell the FTP to start up so I had to RAdmin in with the file manager and copy the shortcut to the Startup folder. But now, it works great. Mapped the data drive as my z: and have my MP3's on it now...streaming them off to my computer and its like theyre on a drive. my only complaint is that the freaking main drive is constantly accessing due to the lack of RAM, and since its an old drive, its kind of loud and I can feel it on the desk when I type so I cant get rid of it with headphones.

I plan to tack it on the wall :p

I've a K62-500 sitting here, gave my last P55T2P4 away a while back, and now I'm kicking myself for it!

ive had 3 in my time. one went into a donated computer with my first K6-2+ 500, which was my very first OCed computer. the others I bought off someone, one is this here board, the other one I think I sold. I might still have it actually, too bad I dont have any more SIMMS and I just sold my other 533...although theyre $20 at newegg. if I do buy anything itll be more RAM for this, 96 makes windows cry

I used to have a fileserver for my roomies and I setup like that. We turned it on using a screwdriver to short the Power On jumper. Needless to say, after a few months the screwdriver slipped, shorted out the board. Eh, it happens

thats why i have much love for AT power supply :p

except for the fact that if you touch the back of the switch you get a 120 volt surprise...do that a lot, i do :(

this things been running constantly for the past days since I posted this, streaming at the very least an MP3 to my main desktop constantly (testing it and gaining stats :D). does anyone know how I can set up task scheduler with only file system access? i want net statistics server to run on my command so I can see the transfer rate. id really rather not shut it down and put in a vid card to get full GUI connection, and fucking RAdmin doesnt give the GUI unless theres a vid adapter installed (brilliant, i tell you).

/edit: nevermind, I can telnet in :D

3,318,056k transferred so far...I watched the end of equiliberium twice too :D

And why, exactly, is that even running Windows in the first place? Linux is what you want for that type of deal. Check out Slackware, or Redhat (at the least).

like hell I have time to configure linux. this was all of install and put on drivers and the progs, then turn off and pull the shit off I didnt want, and its been perfectly fine. no lag in any use...and thats with it being used as an FTP. im thinking about throwing on mysql, php, and apache and getting a quick server up for generic "YOU SUCK STOP LOOKING AT MY COMPUTER" pages :p
