Not a huge shock. Feels like most huge titles like this end up receiving a delay or two. At least it isn't that massive of a delay.

I'm completely fine with this, as I was with Doom being delayed.

I want to play something as polished as it can be, not a buggy/possibly unstable mess. Kudos for them wanting to get it right the first time, wish more devs took this approach...

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 was another big title that also got delayed.
According to that release, it's a 5 month delay strictly for playtesting.

My hunch: it's a 5 month delay strictly for pre-launch Ampere testing.
Would not surprise me if this is lined up with the next big graphic card launch to drive sales of both.

That's absurd. Unless NVidia is paying them millions of dollars, they aren't going to do that much specific GPU testing.

Bummer, but as long as it means a better game than that's fine. More time for FF7R at least.

Noooooooooo, been looking forward to this for so long. But I'm all for getting a polished, complete product. As said above, hopefully new GPUs are out by then also.

Will give me more time to spend with Doom: Eternal and The Last Of Us Part 2 so I guess there's some silver lining there.

Well, I was mostly joking with my post but only mostly. If I were to be more serious, I'd wager that there's a 2-3 month delay on the game side and 2-3 month on the hardware side. Yes, Nvidia probably would pay them a handful of millions to delay launch if they had to. Realistically, the two companies very likely signed a partnership to make this a launch title, and that contract would cover things like what happens if either side is delayed.

Additionally, if a big component to the marketing and launch campaign is to heavily leverage the excitement of stunning new graphics, then that kind of has to happen when the best hardware is available otherwise there won't be much shock and awe. Look at what happened with BFV: by the time the "real" graphics had launched, nobody cared since most people had already stopped playing the game. Maybe if the real graphics had launched with the game, more people would have stuck around long enough to see other core features (like battle royale) launch as well.

I'd wager HW has ZERO to do with it.

Which is as it should be. This is all about fine testing and polishing the insane amount of game content: Quests, and side quests galore if Witcher 3 is anything to go by.

This is the most anticipated PC launch of the last 5 years.

Nvidia has paid more for less.

Hmmm, could this end up being a Star Citizen situation or is it just a legitimate delay? ;)

Eh, the move from right before summer to right before winter isn't a big deal to me. 90% of my gaming happens during the winter.
