I've heard lots of good, and lots of bad stuff about CyberPower Systems. However, for the life of me, I can't find a review for it on any site....although I haven't looked to hard, you know what I mean.

Anyway, I vote that the [H] does a truely [H]ard review of a CyberPower machine to finally shed some light on an otherwise murky subject. Your thoughts?

You'll find the Ultra 7500 SE on PC World (No 1 ranked). I don't think they buy anonymously like HardOCP though.

I was very close to buying one (they are still about $100-$150 cheaper than Pc Club, ABS, Monarch, etc.) but I read too many bad stories to risk it. Sure, you'll find a horror story on all the other ones too, but not as many.

At the end of the day, you may get a great system/bargain with CP but as they say...Let The Buyer Beware. :p

Cyberpower is definitely on my list of companies to acquire a machine from.

I would love to see it...I purchased a system from them about 3 years ago and to be honest, had problems with it till i completely redid the system myself....but like I said, it was several years ago.

Very interested to see if they have improved.

Hm, I've had very limited (and mixed) experiences with cyberpowerinc. To be honest with you, I have a funny feeling the review would turn out something like the widowPC. ^_^

Still though, ide love to read that one!

I would definately like to see a review of them myself as I was very close to and still am considering purchasing one from them. It's kind of funny actually since I was just considering posting about them and having a review done.

One detail I would also like to know is.. is http://www.cyberpowerinc.com and http://www.ibuypower.com the same company? Their websites look almost identical and the pricing is around the same, give or take.

chris when u get a pc from them please buy one of the ones you can configure so that we know how well they can put something different together.
you also could do a review of a laptop of theirs...

I can tell you that I'm working on every avenue to get these guys on board with our program.

I almost decided to buy from them about a year ago, but decided instead to build my own PC from scratch. I also noticed a lot of good and bad reviews from them. But their prices sure are cheap. I would be very interested in seeing a review for one of their systems.

I actually bought a PC from them about 1 1/2 years ago... Price, as most of us know was a little better... I waited about 1 1/2 months and I finally got it. (They said they didn't have the video card drivers from ATI - Right.... )

The icing on the cake was that when I did get it, it was basically DOA. One of the PCI slots was dead... The fan controller was put on with only one screw, and it didn't even work... I'm lucky the thing even powered up.... So, I called them up and asked for them to send me a new one, while I sent them the crappy one back. They said no... I said, Ok, I'm returning everything back, and want my money back. They said fine... I demanded that I get reimbursed for shipping as well, as their warranty policy stated, for DOA... They said its not DOA, since it boots up... Great, it boots up, but I couldn't use my NIC, (so no internet!) since the PCI slot was dead... That's DOA to me... I shipped it back, supposedly I was paying for shipping BOTH ways, but I decided to contest it with my credit card company. I won :p & CyberPower lost, in more ways than just the shipping charges.

Anyway, my vote is in, guess what it is? :D

I'll bet that's true for 90% of the OEM companies out there....the last thing they want is a real objective review of their systems and ordering procedures.

Good luck with that.. I have a very strong feeling that they're not interested in playing ball where they have a genuine risk of bad service and substandard work being revealed.
It's more telling when a vendor refuses play ball than when they do.

...and i have this unshakable feeling he didn't quite get what he paid for.

($2600 for a mid-size wavemaster case, 4800+ X2, 1G RAM, single 7800 GTX)

he hasn't needed tech support (he's had it a week), but the build quality seems kinda poor overall. plus, the packaging was straight out of the widowpc review (pc in the case box, all errata, cables, phamplets were in the mobo box).

i don't know what they were thinking in final QA... the stock 80mm fan on the coolermaster watercooling unit thingie sounded like a 1U server.

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

i forced him to change it. it was that bad.

A question for Chris: I noticed in the WidowPC review that you used your real name (I guess you have to to use your credit card....duh), but are you afraid that someone who is really up on things might recognize your name and derail your plan of getting a "random" system (that is, getting one that is further tweak and tested...)?

Just a thought. Call me paranoid, but I think it could happen. Wouldn't it suck if CyberPower caught wind of you and sent you a planted system. Hope I am not giving anyone any ideas.... :p

We've already taken steps to keep ourselves anonymous. We are continually changing the manner in which we purchase systems to keep people from catching on.

Cool!

Just checking...

right after i shattered my right arm, and they did pretty decent, howerver i ordered a 9600 pro and got a 9600 se, which died, then the ram died in the system, and they replaced that for free. Didnt have any problem rma'ing they didnt even ask for nething back.

My 1st gaming rig was from them (XP 2200+, GIGABYTE KT333 MOBO, 512 OF RAM, GF4 TI4600 ETC..) and we got a PC for my mom from them too (XP2000 MSI mobo 512 of ram etc...), both worked great and at a great price.

My mobo went bad (or was it my cpu lol! been like 3-4 yrs) and I contacted their customer support and had the PC returned and they replaced the mobo and/or cpu for free (since they come with a couple year warranty) and no problems after that since. Great builders and good prices.

im glad to see a positive review but niether of ur pcs were say $2000 gaming pcs with really expensive parts

With Chris and the other guys ordering the systems at very least they can nail the builder for taking longer to get the system to them if the OEM wants to hold it for a little longer to make sure it works. I agree it is not perfect but it is better then others.

I got a PC from there about 3-4 years ago, I didn't have any problems with it, except it was slow to ship. Great price too.

Notice I said my 1st gaming rig?

Umm my PC at the time was top of the line, the GF4 TI4600 was the best video card you could get and 512 of ram was a good amount of RAM back then. Back then 1300 dollars could get you top of the line basically, not these days. Even my mom's PC was a decent PC, a little slower processor and not a fancy graphics card but other than that, basically the same.

PC World surveyed nearly 35,000 subscribers about their experiences with desktop and notebook PCs, printers, cameras, wireless gateways, and MP3 players. The online survey was open to our subscribers between May 1 and August 1, 2005. We limited respondents' reports to devices that were three years old or newer.

Also interesting!

ive baught a laptop from them *the one in my sig*. i love it and i havent had any problems with it what so ever. they shipped it out on time and arrived early on my door step. i think they are worthy of a review and it wouldnt be a waste of time. even though i only ordered one thing from them, i think they are a very good company from my first time experience.

I've actually ordered two computers from them personally because I could get it from them cheaper than I could build myself. Anyway, the computers run fine to this day, both were $350 low end systems, but no less even on such a cheap computer they run great. Their cable job was a mess, but that's the normal with my experience for 90% of OEMs.

I had one two years ago and it was awful--had to also rebuild myself.

I'm thinking of buying a CyberPower UPS (battery backup) because my Belkin died and I wasn't very happy with it. I've never heard of CyberPower so I did a google search for "CyberPower reviews" and this is the only legit looking result on the first page so I clicked through.
My question is... is this CyberPower computer company in this thread the same company that makes the UPS? I hope not. I had to laugh at them making the Urban Dictionary, but I don't want to buy the UPS if it's the same or an affiliated company...
Can someone confirm? Thanks.
The UPS I'm looking at is on sale at buy.com and is the:
CyberPower Intelligent LCD CP1350AVRLCD 1350VA UPS - CP1350AVRLCD - 3yr Warranty
Thanks! displays :D

UPDATE: 11/15/09
I bought it and got it from buy.com in one day! I charged it up, plugged everything in, and then "pulled the plug". Everything worked fine, and it looks like it will run my computer for a good 40-50 minutes. The LCD panel is a fun toy. I've only had the UPS a day now, but so far, I couldn't be happier!

I had a system built by them many years ago, never had any real issues with it. I also use their CyberPower UPS now on a core i7 machine. I've only had it go to backup once on a brownout and it switched nicely. The monitoring software with it is nice as well. I bought the same one your looking at Riley.

hi LS6TA,
I'm glad I asked... but now I'm confused. The reviews here on their computers are horrible, but the reviews on buy.com for the UPS are ok. Hmmm... maybe they got their act together. Good to hear you got the same UPS and it is ok. I think I'll get it based on the buy.com reviews. I just don't want to learn it doesn't work when the power goes out. :)

hmmmmmmm....

CyberpowerPC the computer boutique maker has nothing to do with CyberPower the UPS maker. They are completely different companies. That being said I don't know anything about Cyberpower the upc maker but I haven't heard anything bad. Don't get the two companies mixed up though.
