Cutting thick plexi

My dad brought me a sheet of plexiglass that's about 1/4" thick. I have no problems cutting the thin stuff for windows and whatnot, but how the hell do you cut something this thick? I'm not entirely afraid to ruin it since it was free, but I'd like it to not be destroyed if I can help it.

As an aside, the intent is to try building a case with it, using aluminum angle brackets or unibar for a frame, to have a kind of industrial look...or just make something so hideous no one wants to look at it. Either way, I win.

I also have a slightly smaller sheet of amber acrylic that I might try messing with too...would I cut into that the same way?

I would think that a jigsaw would work... but it will probably get a little hot and melt.

I don't know if this would work, but how about a table saw or a circular saw?

Thats thick!

I forgot to mention that I realize that the FAQ mentions a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade, but I'm looking for as many options as I can find, maybe some personal experiences.

I thought about a Dremel, but that would really really suck, take a lot of time, and probably blow through a whole lot of cutting discs, not to mention probably melt the plexi.

I use my dremel to cut plexi. Nice cut, although it DOES melt it. Use a saw or something for finer edges.

Jigsaw: no
Dremel: no
Bandsaw: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

A jigsaw will crack things 1/8" or less and it will melt things 3/16" or more.

Bandsaw will cut up to 4" thick. So there :D only $99 for a cheap one.
