Custom Resolutions on Eyefinity

Regarding the issue of extreme left and right HUD positions and extreme fisheye FoV issues in some games, I was thinking of a solution involving custom resolutions, but don't know how to implement it.

On Civilization V for example, eyefinity is unplayable. To scroll left or right you have to traverse 5760 pixels, and the HUDs are so far left and right that its a serious chore to use them. And with such an ultra-wide resolution, the outside monitors are just so fisheyed you can't make anything out on them anyway.

But if you could set the center as the preferred display with a lower resolution, say 3840x1200, then it wouldn't be so bad, and would consume just part of the left and right monitors.

Adjusting a couple game INIs though, its not allowing the option, and I have confirmed that some games query the card for available resolutions, not the config file. Thoughts?

You could also run in Portrait Mode, which would remove some of the walleye-vision as well as reduce the amount of mouce movement required...

I think I'm going to cry.

My side monitors are Soyo 24", which don't have adjustable mounts.

But I figured, lets just try it anyway, see what it looks like, and then I can fab something. So I thought I had it well balanced, yeah, I didn't.

It came crashing down, and now the backlight is destroyed. Well, that solves my eyefinity problem!!! I'm shopping for a 42" HDTV instead, what I should have done all along and just kept my tri-crossfire 4870 setup. Hey, its just $315+whatever a 24" monitor goes for nowadays, right? I must have been Hitler's penis in a previous life or something to deserve this.
