case will have removable metal panels for sides and top , thumb screws will be used to attach panels to the case

case color will be black , unless some motivation is given for another color

Wow you made that?? Always amazes me what people can build, especially from scratch! Should have asked you to fab my PSU housing that I wasted forever on. ;)

I like the stairstep front and, if someone doesn't watercool, it looks like you could put a monster aircooler with all the clearance you left on the right side. :cool: That PSU would cool any vid card very well, although I think I would have done the 120mm fan facing out.

You going to do acrylic sides? Looks like it's set up that way... Edit: too slow.

have made two custom cube cases , this is first matx case i have build

mcp600 pump will be used , i will stand it on its nose when i am done . be direct flow straight to the bix rad .

will be makeing optical rails tomorrow to weld in the case ,

then need to fabricate hard drive cage . thinking the hard drive cage will go over the waterblock . be best cooling that way for scsi drive

size of case could be smaller if one uses only 1 optical drive or not to watercool with bix. my other idea was to use dual 80mm radiator this could have been done by mounting it over cpu waterblock thus allowing for hieght being shorter.

I have always wanted to build my own case but don’t have the time to pull it off at the moment.
 
Props Jen, I tried to build a chassis once but came up against to many problems, though we are talking file server rather than mATX so I may have been to ambitious! Thumbscrews look out of place imo, I'd use countersunk torqux (or however it's spelt), but the details are all personal right ;).

cost of case in material is about 30 dollars

thumb screws i am still looking at , may change to black thumb screws later or use of allens. i still like thumb screws for ease of removing panels

the cube case 2 was project i built for my xeons when i had them . building of this case i think was easier cause of size .

Jen, where did you get the mechanical specs for things like the expansion slot locations, HDD mounting slots etc.

the motherboard and atx backplate came from a HP computer case . i was fortunate enough to have someone send me one. rest of design was done with limited knowledge. there would be changes if i was to build again , in length and width of case. hopeing this case will work out well for me now

everytime i start a project such as this i become overwhelmed so many things to think of. still not certain if everything is going to fit into this case , will be trying this today . will have more pictures soon as i have items in new case and start leak testing the watercooling system

eep :S this was my bigest problem due to the nature of the chassis I made I couldn't find a pre-made piece for the mobo

anyone know if they make short floppy drives? seems i ran in to a problem with this sony i have. i have had to cut it some am not sure it will work but lets hope. its hitting my very long scsi card

How long is the Sony and how much shorter does it need to be? My card reader/FDD is about 5~10mm shorter than most FDDs I've got
 
can we have a measurement of standard? perhaps some of us have shorter floppy drives we could send you :)

brand i have is samsung it is 5 7/8 long ,

ideal for me would be 5 to 5 1/2 max .

need it to be black floppy drive to match case ,

this one i have had to cut a corner off of it , just below the power connector. i nicked the ribbon on it that is inside . hopeing i didnt kill it off , sigh

leak testing now , plumbing is a nightmare. i know now why people are useing 7/16 to 3/8 line . yikes this 1/2 is difficult to deal with in small case

looks like i can have two drives in this system , even then i will have to stand them on thier nose to shoe box them in .

How easy (or hard) is it to join aluminum (assuming that is what you used)?

I am thinking of building my own mATX case and I don't have any history of joining metals. :(

lost my host for pictures , will try and resolve this as soon as am able to . been busy with trying to get pictures together for items i have for sale

i use galvanized and steel , to weld aluminum i would need special wire and gas and tip for welder.. i have never attempted this so am not sure how difficult it is compared to what i have done

from what i know it takes a different type of welding equip to weld aluminum, it also takes quite a bit of work to get a good weld too

Oh well, looks like I will have to spend more time designing my case and then have it built for me. Until then I will just stuff it all in a Qpack.

it is most likely for best for now ,

even this case was difficult for me to build , changes i would make if did again

good news is my host is back working again , so recovered pictures

Very nice.
In my X-Qpack I put a fan controller (the vantec one) in the 3.5" slot. If you need a floppy to load raid drivers for installing windoze, there's articles out there on how to burn your own setup cd that includes your own custom drivers... If you just want a 3.5" floppy in it then just ignore me ;)

only use for floppy drive that i could think of was cause of roomate who uses a digital camera that uses them to record on

i since upgraded from onboard video to 6800 ultra,

this involved haveing to remove the floppy drive , and to change from tne nexus fan controller to another one i had here. the nexus controler was to deep as it was hitting my video card

now i have issues with useing a scsi drive as boot drive and a sata as storage drive
