Custom game profiles?

I've poked around ATi's drivers a bit on my media center PC, and I can't seem to find where to create custom game profiles.

For example, I have a few games that don't have any AA options in-game. With Nvidia's drivers, it was as easy as selecting the executable and choosing what graphics options I wanted while it was running (AA, AF, and a host of other options). The drivers would automatically set the options I wanted when the game started, and revert to global defaults when the game closed. Simple enough...

This ability doesn't seem to exist in ATi's drivers. The best I can do it manually, globally force a setting. Really annoying having to go through CCC every time I want to play certain games. Is there any sort of fix for this?

I think you have to create a profile in CCC for the application and then select that profile before opening the application.
 
There's nowhere in CCC to create a profile in the first place, that's the problem...
 
make sure you're not using "Basic View" and using "Advanced View" in CCC?
 
Ok, found the profiles section (missed it before because all the fields were blank), but there's no auto-loading? :confused:
 
pretty sure not with CCC

third party software like ATI Tray Tools might have that capability though
 
...seriously, the drivers can't do it themselves?

I'll take a look at ATi Tray tools, but that's just kinda sad. :(
 
I'm looking for some kind of auto-loading solution as well. It's kind of a pain to manually switch between profiles for something like Battlefield 1942 and Crysis. There's that "feature" in the CCC where you can create a shortcut that launches a game with certain graphic settings but I'm looking for something that handles auto-loading like the Nvidia Forceware software.
 
Rumors are, AMD is adding game profiles in a future release. It's the biggest complaint nVidia to AMD users post about. Seems AMD is finally going to add them. :)

I can't wait for AMD to implement profiles. I'm sorely lacking a nHancer type program after my switch.

I'm also hoping AMD follows Nvidia's lead and add support for forcing SSAO in games that don't have native support.
 
With AMD's refresh possible in April/May, that could shift alot of market to red. :)

where'd you read that? I haven't read any type of news of when ATI will release something like a 5890. just conjecture / speculation
 
It was the biggest surprise for me going from green to red... I had nvidia GPU's for 5 years on both desktops / laptops and when I got my 5870, I took the profiles for granted and was confused as to why CCC didn't have them.

They need to hurry up. The HD6850s are my first time back with ATI since the X1900s. And my first time ever with a dual card setup. The thing I miss most from NVCP is the ability to set custom profiles.
 
ATI Tray Tools is very easy to create profiles with, that's what I use.

Anyway, RadeonPro seems to be the best thing out for handling per-game profiles on ATi cards right now.

No kidding, I thought the first reference to 5k series being refreshed was a typo then I saw it again and looked at post date, lol.

Anyways, can't you just "make" a profile by modifying the CCC 3d settings to override application for things like AA?
 
Sure, you can make profiles with 3D settings in CCC, but you have to apply that profile manually before you start your game, and revert to original settings manually after closing your game.

A lot of people are used to Nvidia's system, where the drivers watch what executable are running, and apply/revert a pofile associated with each executable automatically. RadeonPro emulates that kind of functionality, running in the background and automatically changing CCC settings when a profiled executable is started, and automatically putting CCC settings back to normal when the profiled executable is closed.

Well, "ccc custom game profiles" and it is the second result. I saw 2-14-2010 and registered in my mind "this thread is only 2 months old". But yeah... what the hell AMD!!! Well, guess I'll check out RadeonPro. The world is more likely to end in 2012 before custom profiles in CCC come out at this rate.
 
I'm guessing they never got around to adding this feature in the drivers as predicted lol...

But seriously, for something that doesn't exactly seem all that "exotic" and difficult to implement, yet in such demand, it still confuses me why they haven't implemented it.

Has AMD ever commented somewhat officially when asked about implementing auto loading game profiles?
 
Use MSI afterburner, Config it to load at start up. Before you start a game, load your OCed profile, 1 click on tray icon displays your profiles & lets you select them. I profiled my normal config & OCed config so I could switch back after gaming, it's a snap.
 
Did you even read the thread? Talking about game profiles, not overclocking profiles... and even with your "solution" you still have to manually change every time you open/close a game.

RadeonPro can handle both game settings and overclocking profiles automatically. Still a far better solution.
