custom fan controller ability?

I have a thermaltake fan speed controller for an old heatsink i used to have and was wondering if I can some how solder/twist the wires together to another fan somehow to make a fan controller for that?

control knob comes with 1 black wire and 1 red wire as seen in the image

case fan has black/yellow/red wire

anyone know if this can be done and if so how?
