I've owned both a TN (Samsung 226BW) and eIPS (Dell 2209WA) and both have faults that are pretty annoying. I thought I'd be completely satisfied by the 2209WA, but the black glow that is apparent on non-polarized screens has bugged me ever since I turned it on.

From what I've read, SPVA is supposed to be a compromise between TN and IPS, with it having better viewing angles of the TN (but not as good as IPS), and no black glow apparent on low-end IPS monitors. Having said that, who actually has a current gen 22"~ SPVA panel out there right now?

Doesn't SPVA have it's own unique problems - black crush and ghosting?

From what I've seen, ghosting has been brought under control, but black crush at dead center can be a problem.

I'd still like to see one in person, or at least read some reviews of some of the nicer ones, I just don't know what they are.

Actually the issues with older S-PVA panels where black crush, gamma shift, and output lag. The more recient ones have improved the black crush to where it is a very minor issue, gamma shift has been reduced, but not eliminated. Output lag remains or has gotten worse. So if you are a gamer S-PVA is probubly not for you. It really depends on how sensitive you are to output lag. This varies from one person to the next.

My comments are based on the panels I either had or currently own which include a Dell 2209WA (white glow, and to bright, otherwise perfect), A Dell 2709W ( to bright and output lag that does not bother me), Sony GDM-F520 CRT, Dell 2407WFP, Samsung 215T and others I do not remember any more.

I am not aware of any 22 in S-PVA panels. Dell has moved to almost exclusivly IPS, so you would have to look at Smasung for S-PVA.

Best of luck

Dave

Black crush on S-PVA but deeper blacks for more convincing colors. Also higher input lag than IPS or TNs. Better viewing angle than TNs. Every tech has its limitations/flaws at this point.
