Current generation pricing

You won't. Not on Intel gear from retail outlets. Not until long after you don't want it.

There's no pressure from AMD to force any price cuts from Intel, so you basically have to wait for merchants to feel a need to clear out the older stock.

Ivy Bridge has dropped Sandy Bridges price by a couple of nickels since it debuted, so I wouldn't expect much of a price drop. Consider a $10-$20 drop over the course of Haswell > Broadwell time frame on the previous models.

Until AMD gets its act together Intel really doesn't have any reason to start a price war with itself. They are kicking the crap out of AMD's entire line to the point their best processors are really only fighting the i5. If that's the market you're looking at then things might be looking up throughout the year. All depends on Steamroller at this point, not Haswell, for any price drops.

the best price drops you will see will most likely be from a micro center near you. The first month or 2 you won't see any drops definitely but after that they will have their best processor pricing.

+1 on the microcenter suggestion. Or wait until Intel runs another Retail Edge promotion if you work in one of the approved retail stores.

You will see a price drop on Z77 motherboards they try to clear out of stock, but not the processors themselves.

Microcenter in central ohio had 3570K's at $169 yesterday. They also had just about every socket 1155 mobo on sale or clearance as well. Its worth looking into.

I live in Columbus as well. I glanced at that deal but it's too close to Haswell now....

Prices on CPU often times never drop, we get posts pretty often of people finding a gen or two old extreme CPU's still going for 1k+. It is just how its been for a long time, mobos and the like drop in price, but the CPU's stay the same or some times go up depending on it's market, they are no longer being made but people still have to replace them, so demand on them is still there. You might see some better sales, like MC, but the over all base price will not change much if at all.

Perhaps we might seen an increase, or sudden lack of availability for i5 CPUs when Intel would want to push for Haswell.
