curiosity + ps2 = ARGHHH! BROKEN

i got a little curious last night and i wanted to see what the inside of a playstation 2 looks like. i opened the case up and everything went smooth. i didnt even remove anything but the top cover. anyways i put the system back together after i was done looking (its actually pretty plane inside from just removing the top cover, mostly the only thing u see is the dvd drive and a big heatsink) and now it doesnt start. there are absolutely no lights or signs of life.
from what i can see having opened up the case a second time to diagnose the problem, the only thing that seems to have been effected is the silver ribbon cable connecting the power and eject buttons to the rest of the system. it looks as if the ribbon got pretty twisted when i put the cover back on. i straightened out the ribbon and still nothing works.
if anyone has any ideas on what the problem is or knows how to fix it i would really appreciate the help. and if it cannot be fixed, what do you think i could get ($) for a non-working ps2, mem cards, controllers, and about 15 games?

gamers gave me 40$ for a non working ps2 unit alone with only the power cord

why not just wait a while and get a new ps2 +

or new psx station:D
 
id just play around with it a bit , with the case off , i know i took mine apart b4 , well before it was stolen and sold by my older brother :mad: but i didnt really have any problems
 
Ouch, yeah I have no idea why that ribbon cable is sooo small and so fragile. I had to open a Version 4 PS2 once to install a modchip, and that ribbon cable is a big ass distraction. Seriously, if you guys would have seen it, you would be like "WTF!!"

Man, I know that you can purchase that ribbon cable somewhere on the net for 10 bucks or something like that. Is either that or sell the PS2 for about 40 bucks.
 
i once opened a fuc*d up ps2 and closed it after that with no problem, because the pos wasnt mine
i didnt see anything interesting in there, just mb and cd drive.
 
i have opened 2 of them 1st time i did it to fix one it worked after i did

second was to look over a ps2 that had developed terminal disc read error were all thought immediately left my head and i said well look a cmos battery it must be there to keep the time so i took it out little did i know it also kept the operating system on the chips.......
 
I've opened up my PS2 hundreds of times and it always works fine, well fine is debatable because it's having disc read errors, hell I can put the thing back together blind folded but for the life of me I can figure out what happened to yours. Pics of your process?
 
i will try and post pictures tomorrow, it will be tough because i dont have a digital camera. i didnt physically touch any components inside the ps2, just the top cover. the only things i can think of revolves around the silver ribbon cord connecting the power/eject button. should i get a tiny screwdriver and move the dvd drive to look under it and see if the cable is connected securely to the (whatever the hell its connected to) motherboard?
 
The first time I took it apart I actually had the top case thingy hanging by the ribben cable for just alittle bit (less then 5min). Everything worked fine.:confused:
 
you could try look for the ribbon thingy on ebay...
nee ways I opened my PS2 and it still works :p but I was encouraged after successfully taking apart and putting back together my bro's VAIO lappy :D
 
the power and reset buttons are part of the "security" built into the ps2. the power and reset buttons directly activate the security code checker that verifies that the games are actual ps2 games. they also put it there so when lazy kids tried to mod, it would snap or break and ruin their playstation. All this info is relevant for the first 2 versions of ps2, after that Im not sure, I havent opened one up or heard any updates.
 
That could be what happened, hey jamestime88 what version is yours? Mines a 3000001
 
thanks for all the help guys. lots of good suggestions. i use the scph-30001 R version. if nothing works by this weekend ill try buying a new ribbon cable. i hope i can post pics by tomorrow.
