Cuplex EVO vs. Cuplex XT

Does any one have an opinion between the EVO and the XT CPU coolers?
I have an EVO, which I love the looks of BTW, but since I am using an FX-55 I am unsure if I would be gaining much using the XT. If I were using an Intel chip I would strongly cosider trading out. Any comments?

I had the EVO and found it cooled OK (maze 4 like performance), but looked good. The XT looks and cools much better than the EVO.

The one thing for sure is the EVO kills flow!

Really, how so?

I think he might have meant that the "XT" kills flow, not the Evo. There are two hard right angle turns inside of the Cuplex XT that I would imagine creat a lot of restriction. This has something to do with the design of the jet impingement inlet but I am really not qualified to talk on that subject. ;)

When I invested in my AC gear I had the choice of either a Cuplex Evo or a Cuplex Pro. I chose the Cuplex Pro based on reviews that showed it getting a few degrees C better temps than the Evo. Early reports suggest that the XT cools slightly better than the Pro. I don't know how much more restriction the XT adds over the Pro, but I would imagine it is pretty significant. In any case, if I had a lot of blocks in my loop I would go for the Cuplex Pro or Evo. If all I wanted to cool was the CPU and GPU then I might consider the XT...

I think that the XT has better flow characteristics than the Evo as I remember seeing that somewhere when discussing the issue with some factory types. It also has more cooling capacity than the Evo. Essentially it is a nozzle jet cooler similar to the Cuplex Pro, but more highly engineered. And of course IMHO it looks a lot nicer. :p

I think the XT has better flow than the EVO. The EVO channels water down a very narrow hole in the block and then forces it around the copper core. Not very efficent design, but worked nicely. Still a very good looking block.

My bad. I thought that the EVO didn't use any kind of restriction in its design.

Aqua Computer posted a review of the XT on their main page. I think the review was done by an independent review site, not AC. The XT was tested against the ScaroSystems ScaRex-7F and SxaRex-7FAl (same block but in aluminum instead of copper. Why, I don't know...) I don't know much about the ScaroSystems ScaRex-7F but those who do have told me that it is pretty much comperable to the Cuplex Pro. With this information, you can see from the review that the Cuplex XT and the ScaRex-7F cool the same when at idle, and the Cuplex XT is 1 degree better than the ScaRex-7F under load after 1 hour. Link

Basically, the XT is going to kill the EVO in performance. But, you could also go for the Pro over the XT, save 30-40 dollars, and get virtually the same performance. Really it comes down to personal preference. If you want to spend the extra $$ for the look of the XT then go for it. Personally I think it's an ugly design  I'll stick with my Pro this round. :p

Well I went ahead and ordered the XT from Sharka today along with 2x6800 GPU coolers and the Twinplex NB cooler. Wes studied the layout of the ASUS Ultra card and confirmed my fears, the Aquagrafx will not fit.
