CTRL button muting sound?

I have a client using a Radeon 9000, AXP 3200+, and Chaintech 7NIL1 motherboard. He's using the onboard sound. Every time he presses CTRL it mutes the sound. Any ideas why this is??
 
Perhaps the key combination for mute (usually something like ctl-F12 or something), perhaps the second key in the combination is stuck??

Wierd.
