csp-mag pump problem

I've been running the danger den csp-mag pump in my loop for about a week. It sounded fine at first but now it sounds strange when it is powered on or off. When powered on it seems to have trouble starting up. It doesn't sound smooth. Once it gets going though it sounds fine and I haven't noticed any change in my temps. When powered off the pump almost sounds like is grinding to a halt rather than spinning down slowly.
Anybody else seen this problem with this pump? Is my pump about to give out?
 
previous c-systems pumps had a whole host of problems....the CSP-Mag has been doing reasonably well so far, but it sounds like you MIGHT have gotten a bad one.

in your position, i would flush out the loop, re-fill it with clean coolant (to make sure that not solid bits are messing things up), make sure that you have not air in your loop now or after the flush and re-fill. if the problem persists, dial up whatever retailer you got that pump from (DD, if you ordered directly from them) and try to get a warrenty replacement. if it is an out of the box failure, the retailer should set you up. i would try to avoid opening the thing up unless you are specifically told to do so by a manufacturer tech/rep.

if you get referred to C-systems directly, you're in for a rough ride if they still have the same policies of 6 months ago. i remember one forum member returned 3 pumps to them, one after another, and all of the ones that he got back were also bad. in the end i think that he went with a well proven aquarium pump.
 
I had 3 C-System pumps and each one of them broke after a month of usage. I got the first 2 exchanged at my local store, but finally I sent the last one in to C-System and they refused to replace it. Said there was a problem with the pump board caused by a short because of my PSU. However my PSU is still working and nothing else has died, so I have no idea why they would say it is my fault.

Anyways, the first two pumps had problems starting and would rattle or have trouble starting up. Sounds like you're having the same problems. I'd say get it exchanged, or return it if you can and pick up a Swiftech pump!

That's what I did, picked up a MCP 650, ran it for 6 months, no problems. Then I went a bought a MCP 655 and it's still going strong after 6 months.
 
How long did it take until the sounds started up?

A few days? It could definitely, and most probably is a defective or even, cheap pump..Just because y ou paid alot doesn't mean the pump is quality :). GL though, I hope you get everything solved for free!!!

DaLurker, you are talking about the original C-systems pumps right, the 750 series? The Mag is totally different. Just wanted to clarify.
 
It took about a week or so before I started hearing the sounds. I never ran it continuously though, just for a couple hours every night.
I'll give it another couple of days and see if the problems persist or get worse. If so I'll try to return it to the store I bought it from.

I would try a drain and flush. If you can, circulate a bucket of fresh distilled water through it for 15-30 minutes, and check to see if you still hear the grinding noise....there might be a chunck of crap stuck in/around your impeller. If he flush doesn't fix it....take it back right away...you don't need the hassle of trying to return/exchange something after more than a week or so of use.
 
i went thru 2 mag 12 pumps each started to fail after about a weak of use
danger den was nice about it but finally i said charge me 20 more bucks an send me the d5

Yeah, I am talking about the 750 series but I've heard enough horror stories to think that C-systems hasn't changed much.
