What video card would be recommended for the upcoming hype of HL2 -- CS : Source..... ?

I want to get a good video card that's going to be worth my while in a reasonable price range....

Nobody knows for sure. You will have to wait until it's released.

you have to be joking me, right? Do you even read the forums at all, or just come in and post questions about what video card is better? SEARCH the forums--there are over 10,000 posts about the new video cards, and proabably 100,000 total. Do something for yourself

since the halflife 2 source engine is very scalable, so will this game

yeah, I was reading the steampowered hardware survey for hl2, and most people there had geforce 4/ 4mx series cards. For the CS:source beta this info was given to me:

What will the system requirements be for Counter-Strike: Source?

Min:
1.2 GHz Processor
256MB RAM
DirectX 7 graphics card
Windows 2000/XP/ME/98
Mouse
Keyboard

Preferred:
2.4 GHz ProcessorB 512MB RAM
DirectX 9 graphics card
Windows 2000/XP
Mouse
Keyboard

that is from valve themselves.

I figured I would just ask. I have been researching. I just wanted a few opinions on what you guys thought. Way to flame, are you mad at the world?

im not flaming you man, but what you just said is about the most ironic thing a person who calls themself redhate could say....lol....sorry I will go away, I just found that funny.

Well , since HL2 is "bundled" with ati and being designed a little more for the x800 line of video cards, i would believe the ati would be the card of choice for CS:Source.

But the 6800 line will still be great with hl2/CS:S.

Until the game ships thats just hype and stupid marketing.

And that is why i don't know if i want the x800 or the 6800... time will have to tell what is really the best card.

This is the only response any of us could give. It's also the only correct response as of this time. You can guarantee that the day HL2 is released, every review site will have a full benchmark on it, and then we'll all know for sure. :)

He's a troll and due to a lack of moderation he's been allowed to continue on with his ways...

Why don't you post the entire thread instead of just a snippet of it? It was funny in context, and was a running joke with kick@ass. I dont know what kick@ass's problem is, maybe hes just have a bad day

The PNY 6800 GT deal that's posted probably wouldn't be a bad deal. $320 shipped.

I hear after doom3 is released the prices on the x800 pro will drop to or below the $300 mark. Has anyone else heard this? I think I will probably make the purchase then.

hl2 and cs: source will run fine on a 2ghz system with 512 ram and a radeon 9600 pro or better. 800x600 with things on high. mabye some AA/AF also. or 1024x768 with no AA/AF
a 9800 would be better. and of course a 6800 will last longer for next gen games, all depends on $$$

this is a little "take it for what you will" and a little "should you really be doing this?" .......... but there is a website that took the leaked e3 compiled sources and benchmarked them.

now keep in mind these sources are from May of 2003 (and its currently July of 2004) so the game engine is probally VERY VERY different now (but maybe not). BBBBBBBUUUUUUTTTTT, its the best "guess" you can have in terms of "how is it going to run".

There's 4 benchmarks that were run, but I think

THIS (1024x768 AA/AF)

one is going to be the best for seeing "video card vs. video card" results.

again, I don't claim that these results are really how things will play out, but it's the best we have other than "hey wait till its out n00bcakes".

HERE is the full article if you are intrested in the read. They compare everything against everything.

EDIT: There seems to be some issues when clicking on the AA/AF benchmark due to the huge flash file? If you have problems loading the link but are still intrested in seeing the results you might be better off clicking on the link above then manually entering in this URL. It is the direct URL to the swf but can only be accessed when your refering URL is ixbit.com (otherwise it'll give you a forbidden error). Anywho. Just copy this URL and then when you try to load the page, manually enter this in the address bar. It might require some zooming as it will scale to the browser window size.

Holy shit, Digital Emperor: Those results are incredible, 55FPS in a barely-optimized build of an unreleased game at 16X12, with aniso! Even though I'll never play at 16X12, the performance at 10X7 is also pretty impeccable.

I want a large sum of money now. :(
