CS Source: Stress Test Error

Getting weirdness when running the above.

Everything was fine until I 'upgraded' from 71.84 (WHQL) to XG 76.10. I now get 'Error' in red font spinning in place of the tablets - you know the ones, the water & stained glass etc..Only the 1st 4 or 5 - the last one with the pic of the fire on it is OK. Is it the driver, or is my HL2 code mullered?

I've run driver cleaner (fully updated) but I'm still getting this issue (with 71.84 too, now). Games appear to be unaffected.

Just about to go to bed (I'm in the UK & have had too many late nights). Any help, as always, very much appreciated.

EDIT: Temps are right on the money - late 50's idle, under 70 load.

Obviously the beta driver messed something up. I'd uninstall your drivers again, reboot into safe mode, run driver cleaner twice, then reinstall the officials from nvidia's site.

I just put in my new X800XT PE and when I run the test I get the same red error things. My 9800 pro never had a problem and the XT runs the game great. Temps are fine.

It did that with my 9800pro at one point.. then they updated CS S through steam and it worked properly afterword..

I have the three red ERROR's too, on an ATI 9600pro, so it's obviously not something wrong with our systems. Maybe it was something in one the latest updates, or hey, maybe it's suppose to say that now.

Ya, it's supposed to say that now. Just like your computer is supposed to crash all the time and blow up. Prolly just a steam thing, I have it too.

Another mess up from steam -.-; [This problem started appearing for me :S]

Just woken up to find that I am not alone with this issue - yay :p Not that I would wish it upon any of you guys

Thanks for all the replies - I've tried removing several times with DC, but to no avail. Games (as far as I can see) are not impacted, so I guess it's ok for now. I'm going to do a little more testing to ensure that this is the case.

I'd love to blame Steam, but I guess I was 'tinkering' at the end of the day. But then tinkering is what it's all about, yes?

Cheers again for all the replies.

Jelly :)

Sorry, while HL:2 is definately game of the year, the :Source engine is nowhere near as slick or clean as the D3 engine. I have several bugs also, purple borders occasionally in VST and purple highlights and scroll bars in CS:S. No overclocking. Two video cards, both have the same problem.

You're right, and as such I've changed my mind. I do blame Valve! :D

*breathes a sigh of relief*

oh thank god, i was getting ready to blame my mobo and ram config (just upgraded to neo2 plat and 1gig corsair pc3200 value ram) because i was getting the same issue when i had my pc2700 memory installed. I was going to post the same exact question as you did.

thought either my motherboard was a dud and an RMA was needed or there were compatibility issues with my graphics card (6800gt).

thank god there are others with this problem. well, actually i'm not thankful you guys are experiencing it, but you know what i mean :p.

i just reinstalled hl2 and cs:s so i'm assuming it's a bug with the latest cs:s update? i say this because everything worked fine before.

thank god, same here with me.

my thread was posted this morning asking about it.

6800 here with latest nvidia drivers

maybe it's the drivers?

I just got that error on the first 4 tablets with driver 67.41.

I did update Steam the other day so maybe that is it.

When I reinstalled steam I just copied my old valve folder and replaced files on the new one. Did anyone here do that too? Could that cause the problems?

Note: Looks like the errors increased my bench score. They can feel free to stay :p

Also when I ran the stress test with the XT PE I got a score of 78.xx FPS, the exact same score I had with my 9800 Pro, kinda weird eh?

I got it too. Stress test errors and purple bars. I wish I had checked here first....it would have saved a lot of wasted troubleshooting.

gg valve.

I've never seen the red error signs but I sometimes get purple colouring on the floor, and the four revolving panes. It's weird because it's seems to be pretty random - usually it's totally fine but sometimes the purple colour. The water and the walls are always fine. Strange.

That is really weird, as I see nothing on your computer that is a huge bottleneck. Something that may cure it, reload your copy of WinXP w/ a fresh install. That is always reccomended with any major hardware update.

EDIT: Yep, I get the "error" message(s) too, but you know what? It doesn't affect any games in game, so i'm not worried about it.

I'm in the same boat.. error...

Since hl2 and cs worked fine, I figure its not a driver bug. as any driver bug wouldn't decide to change the model with ERROR.

This is shaping up to be a Valve problem and not, as I first suspected, a driver issue (which is good given nVidia's track record for timely WHQL releases :p ) Or is it, wasn't HL2/CS:s late too....? Doh!

I guess I must have pulled in an update/had my code fragged just before/after doing my driver change.

I noticed my score go up as well. I guess rendering 'ERROR' is a little less taxing that the other stuff that's usually there! Ah well, in game looks to be fine.

This is interesting, becuase it appears that only certain configs are affected. I have not experienced any errors with Steam/Valve updating HL2, but then again, my hardware is quite up to ya'lls spec.

Perhaps the error has something to do with regional coding? Just a thought.

BTW: I run HL2/CS:S on a ti4400 128MB card at 320/640 core/mem.

I did a format and fresh install of XP pro before using my new card. :)
