CS: Source problems

I just started playing cs source yesterday. Im frequently locking up while in a number of different servers. Not a total lockup, but just with the server im in. All of sudden everything stops moving. Everything just stops completely, but im still able to move my mouse and look around. If i disconnect and then reconnect everything is fine. But a few matches later it will happen all over again. Hopefully theres an easy fix.

this is getting out of hand. its not even worth trying to play anymore. could this possibly be the "stutter bug" ive read about?

No the stutter bug is not that serious.
I experienced the stutter bug after saving while playing single player HL2 back when the game was brand new.

I haven't heard of the stutter bug in CS: Source. I could be wrong though.

It sounds like your periodically losing connection to the server. The fact that you have had this happen on mulitple servers suggests that it's a problem with your connection.

Do you have 56k? or DSL/Cable?

Speedguide.net has a connection checker (i think that was the site). Use it, and report back your findings.

In any case run spyware scans and download a program called "Hijackthis".

Run a scan with hijackthis and delete anything even slightly suspicious. Anything that looks like it shouldn't be there. Spyware, adware, etc. Remove it.

If you need any further help Post again.

Adam.

If youre still able to look around, then at least its not a graphic/processing problem.
sounds like lag...
connectivity problem? you on a 56k? wireless?

by the way, there are a million counterstrike threads out there... try reading those for solutions.

I had the same problem. It is a connection issue. Check your bandwidth, run spyware tools, etc.

No spyware or any viruses. Im pretty strict when it comes to maintenence and keeping my machine clean and running right. Im running on 3.5 down 512k up cable connection. I am hooked up behind a linksys wired router. I never loose my connection though. But maybe the linksys is causing issues? The firmware on it is up to date.

Did you run hikackthis??? You might be surprised what you find.

There is a known problem with newer firmware on Linksys routers. Apparently, they do cause intermitten loss of connection. Try regressing to an older firmware. I am unaware how to do this but there is a way of d/ling older files previously available on a website; it's a browser address. I don't remeber how it goes; you can do it with any website. (At least to my understanding),

well it turns out my linksys router is the culprit. I unhooked my router and straight through my cable modem. Everything runs fine now. I played for an hour with no problems.

Upgrade to the 1.47 firmware or something, cant remember exactly...google should turn it up for you. I had this issue and it seems to have fixed it.

i was upgraded at the most recent firmware. not sure what version it was. can you check and see what version your on?

the file name of the firmware i went to is

befsr41v2.1-v1.45.11_code.bin

If you PM your email address I can email the firmware over to you and the upgrade utility if you dont already have it.

Did you forward the Steam ports? 0-1200 and 27000-27039 are what I have forwarded.

I did some google searching and found that firmware 1.45.7 works best. I rolled back to that and its running good so far. Seems a lot of people had this problem with the linksys router and the firmware was the fix.
