I have a 6800nu and I was able to unlock the xtra shader. The pipes artifact :(

How high do you believe I should be able to get AA and AF up while keeping a high framerate. Everbody know FPS id important in this game soI dont want it to drop below 35. 32 is the minium. Otherwise it can look choppy. I have had a hard time finding the correct settings b/c latency always messes me up. Can a more experienced user please tell me about where it should work fine?

no aa and 4x af with that card. well im not sure. i dont know nvidia very well to tell ya. what resolution are you running? id say if ur running 1600x1200 then you dont really need AA n just go with AF. 1240x1024 id say 2xAA and 4xAF.

Well I run at 1024*738 or w/e....

It's only a 17" montor and I dont need stuff lookign any smaller. I can run 4aa/8af but online it varies between runing well at no aa/af to that setting. Most servers only run good with 2aa/4af and somtimes its only ok with 2aa. It's so odd. The worst part is my ping ont he various servers never goes about 90.

Well with my config I do temporal 6aa / 16af in 1600x1200 (Everything runs at 60-75fps, so you should have no problem). Since it's the first time in my life that I can use antialiasing in a game....I passed from a geforce3ti-200 128mb to a x800xt-pe!! I need to play with aa!!

At that resolution with a 6800 you should be able to crank things pretty damn high.

CS works with hit boxes. Hence to high resolution on given monitor and hit boxes are going to be to small. To small hitboxes and Your accuracy is much lowered.

Many good CS players play on CTR's 17"or 19" and still play on crappy looking 800x600 and they give some mean Head Shots.

Many of them also want max frame rates so they goo without eye candy and high resolutions.

When You play HL2 You need eye candy. AI enemys aren't so dangerous as online playing gamers. AA and AF will give You more in movie feeling. So offline playing asks for eye candy. Highest and nicest resolution is needed.

Though online and LAN playing asks for high frame rates and low lag. It asks also for decent sized hitboxes.

Good resolution, to keep looks at decent level and hitboxes still in normal size, deppends on type of a monitor and of it's size.
CTR's are more flexible so almost any resolution is posible.
TFT screens are suffering from sharpness problems in resolutions smaller as native resolution.

Well let's say grafic and CPU power is not a limit. Then this are resolutions I advise to be used with any version of CS,

For newer 17" CTR's good choice is 800x600 or maximum 1024x768. Older 800x600.
For 19"and 20" ideal is 1024x768.
For 21"and 22"CTR's 1280x1024 if they are newer type and 1024x768 if You are sitting further away from it.

15" TFT screens aren't made for CS. As well as 15" CTR's.

Well some TFT's suffer more form lower resolution fuzzyness then the otheronce.

Mostly used TFT's are 17"and 19". They have same native resolution of 1280x1024. Well 17" TFT's look much better at 1024x768 resolution then 19". And ideal compromise for 17"TFT is 1024x768. Some 19" TFT look good anmd some very very bad when on 1024x768 resolution. Soem even get pale (less contrast or not so good black color). But if You are lucky and Your 19"TFT looks good in CS with 1024x768 it will have nice big hitboxes and still look good.
Otherwise You will have to use 1280x1024 and then hitboxes are to small + more GPU/CPU power is needed to power that resolution.

O.K. Then let's say You have good grafic card like 6800GT and better and 17" TFT monitor. You choose 1024x768 resolution and hit boxes have good size. Though now You have even to much FPS. Then goo with AA and AF but stay be aware fun becomes 60 FPS up :)

AA and AF are good for sharpness so Yo ucan see things better in distance.

Although HL2 is not exactly light grafic game it ain't so hard on GPU as some other games. Still it needs min 6600Gt to work fine in DirectX 9.0C. Plus all other people that have DirectX 8.0 cards can paly it too. Ati people should pack min 9800 with 256 mb ram. If they wanna play with AA and AF x700 and stronger cards are needed.

To play it fast enough at Driect X 8.0 You will need minimum of a 4600 or better 5900 (although 5900 is Direct X .0 card it is not good for 9.0 and it's great in 8.0)
Ati people can play it from 9600 and up.

CS CZ needs less power then CS:S but more power then needed ain't that bad at all.

All CS 1.x versions are pretty easy so even MX cards and 9000 Radeons will be sufficient.

The CounterStrike Hitbox 800x600 myth has ben debunked several times. I'll try to find threads from [H] relating to the details.

it also depends on the server size as well. if you're playing on a 40 man server you will probably get slow downs here and there ie down to 30fps dips.

if i remember correctly the hitbox for css is weird you actually have to aim behind the player you see. imho css and cs in general needs major improvements. its just that the community doesnt want change or something. huge amounts of things need to change about this game.

only good thing about cs is the amount of players playing.:p

Yup. The hitbox trails behind the player, and it's worse depending on your ping. If you're lagging, you're a deadman if you think a wall is protection!
